Vehicle Detail
Can not keep the car, would like to have somebody rescue this one. This car has not been restored at all and is a good example ready for a restoration. Has been outside in my driveway for 5 years under a tarp. I have owed this car for 9 years. Is in good shape for being 39 years old. All matching numbers, motor, fender, factory metal plate and steering column Weber 2 port carburetor, starts right up, runs and drives great. Drives strong and handles well. Brakes are good. I’ve used the car as a Sunday drive around town for fun car and also drove as an extra car when needed. Clutch and gears work fine. Car shifts great, runs smooth and drives strong. Some smoke on acceleration. Engine smokes a little and always has from when I bought her, I didn’t do anything about this because she has always run smooth and strong. Siena Brown 1976 BMW 2002, mileage is at 86K however the odometer is no longer turning. Rectangular tail lamp model, car feels solid, and corners a little flatter than the earlier models. Since all the bugs were worked out by the time the final 1976 models were produced, these are, without question, the best-built 2002s of them all. 1,990cc Inline four-cylinder, single overhead-cam with twin rocker shafts, cast-iron block with aluminum cylinder head, 8.3:1 compression ratio, hardened forged-steel crankshaft, five main bearings, forged-steel connecting rods, single dual-barrel Weber carburetor, 4 speed manual. HORSEPOWER: 100hp @ 5,500 rpm TORQUE: 106-lbs.ft. @ 3,500 rpm GEARBOX: Four-speed manual, fully synchromesh, hydraulic clutch. All lights are in working order, headlights, blinkers, running lights and break lights. Horn works with the distinctive “meep”. Have a set of large round fog lights, and a small set, removed the small set from the grill, wiring is still there. Wipers work. Dash has some cracks (had a plastic cover over it, I took this off, will send along with the car.) I took the radio out because it was getting some feedback the thru the speakers, may not have been grounded. Original cloth horsehair seats. Driver seat has a couple tears. Center console is a little loose. Body in good shape and sounds solid. All chrome trim is there along with the side moldings. 5 of the 7 windows are marked with BMW logo and appear to be original. Windscreen was replaced some time along with one of the rear vent windows, all other glass is BMW marked glass. Molding on rear window has some cracking. Basket weave wheels (spare is original rim) Have two sets of keys for the car. For some reason in the winter, the key does not want to turn, then eventually does. BMW badges were replaced at some point, front hood and rear trunk. I replaced the rear taillights on both sides, replaced fuel lines, master break cylinder and the fan housing. Sunroof was fine until Oct 13th when I opened it and it was stuck from not being used, seems I broke the retracting cable (my fault), so it will not open or close properly. I researched repairs on line and this appears to be common at times for the age of the car. Only time the sunroof leaked (prior to me breaking the cable) was when the drain line got clogged. Has been fine for years. Car has some rust on the undercarriage, appears to be surface only, nothing is rusted thru. Actually the rocker panels look real good. Floor panels appear solid. Muffler is rusted however no holes and sounds good (appears original) Some bubbles on the paint in areas. Roof has fading paint and some cracking by top of rear window. Was getting some water in the spare tire area but not rusted thru, still looks solid. Please see pictures. Has been repainted as some point with original factory color “Siena Brown” as marked under the hood. Good points: Engine is original, all numbers match (engine, fender, factory metal plate and steering column) starts right up, runs strong, clutch and gears work fine, brakes are good, tires are good but old, Car appears to be mostly original and has not been restored. Bad points: Minor oil leak, smokes a little (always has since I brought it home), odometer not turning, minor bubble rust on a various spots, broke the sunroof crank wire so it will need to be fixed, dash has some cracking. Key doesn’t like turning in very cold weather. Does have some rust on the under carriage. Rear bumper on the right side appears to be pushed in about a half inch where something must have hit. Parts that will be sent with the car: Extra front grills left and right, two sets of fog lights, right side rocker trim, sport steering wheel, weather stripping for the trunk. Plastic dash board cover. BMW manual. Car cover. Please help to save and restore this little baby. Thank you for looking.
