Vehicle Detail

Normal.dotm 0 0 1 993 5664 NoCo 47 11 6955 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Up for sale is my 1970 Firebird Formula 400. Please do not bid on this car if you are not planning to follow through with the transaction. This is the highly desirable Carousel Red original color. Car was a early 70 build car as it shipped 3-11-1970 to Kole Pontiac in Oak Lawn, IL. This was the new body style of the Firebird that officially launched to market at the end of February 1970. I drive this car 600-800 miles annually. The wheels are 15" American Racing. It goes out even in the winter up until the first snow/sand on the highway then is started monthly including driving up and down driveway. The car is stored in a heated garage in order to keep it in great shape during the winter months. During the almost 10 years that I have owned the car I have had extensive professional work done with the emphasis on mechanicals as I believe in driving rather than looking at it in the garage. The motor is original 350 HP YS block with code 13 heads and was completely rebuilt by a professional motor rebuilder in June 2009. Mileage at the time was 75057 and speedometer now reads 78930 or about 4000 miles since the rebuild. I opted to have Hooker Ceramic Headers installed along with a Pypes Stainless Exhaust system. I have the original exhaust manifolds and they will go with the car. The prior owner replaced the original transmission with a rebuilt transmission about 12 years ago. Under hood and front lighting wiring harnesses were replaced when the engine was being rebuilt. Not sure if the original owner or a later one had their dealer install a Hurst Dual Gate Shifter which is presently in the car. I do have an original 1970 Pontiac Firebird shifter that will go with the car. In 2005 I had the complete suspension, front and rear springs, shocks (replaced with Edelbrock Performer Classic IAS Shock Absorbers), body mounts and front end parts replaced with correct Urethane restoration parts from Classic Industries and other aftermarket suppliers. There were some areas of rust in the drivers and rear floor plans that were cut out and welded with metal from aftermarket replacement pans. I also had some rust removed from the frame rails, again this was cut out and replaced with new metal. A professional shop that specializes in restoration work did the repair of the metal. The trunk floor pan is solid although there is some surface rust as I did not get around to having it repainted. The fuel tank has been replaced at some point in time with what appears to be a stainless or aluminum tank. Brakes have also been completely replaced with Drilled Rotors & Heavy Duty Calipers in the front and heavy duty shoes/drums in the rear. Brake hoses were replaced along with some of the lines. Master cylinder and Power Booster unit were also replaced. This car still retains the correct brake distribution block that was unique to the 1970 model year Formula. The original Harrison radiator finally gave out in 2012 and was replaced with a Be Cool Restoration Black Finish Aluminum Radiator. I had the original Rochester 7040264 Quadrajet carb sent out for rebuild and restoration in 2008. When I had the motor rebuild in 2009 I removed the Quadrajet and packed it in a box then replaced with a new Holley 4127 Quadrajet replacement with electric choke. The Holley unfortunately is a little taller than the original Rochester Quadrajet so I had to put an aftermarket K&N air cleaner on the car. I have the original Dual Snorkel air cleaner and it and the restored Quadrajet go with the car. In 2014 I replaced the original starter with a Heavy Duty Summit model. The Delco Radio and Delco 8-Track use a Dual Speaker 4x10 Front Dash 10 Ohm 3.5" speaker made by Electro Tech. I have also installed a high end Pioneer AM/FMCD/HD/Internet/Sat Ready Radio (has Bluetooth and remote) in the glove compartment that use 4 Ohm 6x9 beefy Pioneer speakers mounted on the rear shelf. I have some temporary front speakers under dash that really need to be replaced with something permanent. Weather stripping on the doors/windows/trunk have been replaced with SoffSeal brand factory replacement weather-strip. Other upgrades to the car to make it more enjoyable include new front and rear seat upholstery with new seat foam from Ames Performance in NH. New carpeting and new seat belts were installed in the car at the same time. The original car did not have a radio (radio delete option). When I had the seats and console out I installed a vintage correct Delco AM/FM Stereo Radio and Delco 8-Track Player. Both were rebuilt. For night driving I replaced the stock halogen bulbs with 7" LED DOT approved bulbs made by Truck-Lite. These are the most awesome auto lighting system I have ever had. They are totally drop in replacements and cost over $400 for the pair. The A/C compressor seized up several years ago and all of the A/C components under the hood are still there, however, a prior owner removed the ductwork from under the dash and did not reinstall. I’m guessing that was done to replace the dash cover. I have the ducts and they will go with the car. The overhead dome light and courtesy lighting under the dash are not working. The car is finished to my style that is a combination of original and improved. Paint looks great at 10' and ok at 3'. If you are looking to make this into a show car then you would need to have it professionally repainted as there are some imperfections as I detailed in the Condition Description. I'm sure I have forgotten to a bunch of the improvements I have made during the past 10 years and have to the best of my knowledge notated the condition. Please read the details I have included in the condition description portion of this listing about the condition of this car. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask including a professional inspection. This car has been inspected by a State of Rhode Island Official Inspection Station and passed all of the necessary tests to be registered as an everyday vehicle through April 2016. The State of Rhode Island does not Title vehicles over 10 years of age. The Rhode Island Registration is a valid document in lieu of a title. This car was last titled in the State of Illinois and I have that title, however, the Rhode Island Registration is recognized as a title by other states as long as the vehicle is >10 years of age. In summary, this is a wonderful cruising car. I drive it regularly. It is fun to drive, handles great and gets 12-16 mpg depending on the how much highway versus around town driving. Last season’s big drive was 175 mile single day round trip to a car show on Cape Cod. I did receive a Class Runner Up Award at the 2012 Eastern Pontiac Regional’s in Warwick, RI but that was by public vote a not official judge. Thank you for your interest. Please remember this is a 45-year-old Classic Muscle Car and I have done my best to notate the good and the bad. You are welcome to have it inspected. Please ask any questions now as all sales are as is and are final. There are no warrantees or guarantees either expressed or implied.
