This 2002 VW Passat has a lot of perfectly functioning parts - the driver and passenger leather seats heat up nicely, the radio and CD player work, and all the windows (sunroof included) open and close on demand. You'll find some scratches and dents on the body, but despite the over 236,360 miles it has traveled in its 13 years, we managed to avoid any major unsightly blemishes!There is some wear on the edge of the driver's seat, but the rest of the interior looks great, and it has never been smoked in! And when the mechanics of the car are working well, it is a fun, "zippy" ride! So now the bad news, and the reason we can no longer keep it: it doesn't really run. A problem with the fuel pump makes it difficult to start. It can start up with a jolt to the battery, and you may even be able to drive it some distance, but it won't be a very pleasant ride. The oil that has leaked and accumulated under the hood smells pretty bad when it runs. And there is a problem with the catalytic converter.BUT, as I said, it has its positives! Just 9 months ago it got a new mass air flow sensor and coolant temperature sensor for which we paid over $400! And lots of other parts work, in fact, according to our mechanic on 1/5/15, "the ignition system was tested and is working as designed!"We can sell it to a salvage yard for a few hundred dollars, but we decided to give it a try on Craigslist to see if it could be worth more than that for someone :).
