Vehicle Detail
**** Relisting due to a second non-responsive buyer. Please, serious bids only! Feel absolutely free to ask questions you may have!****** Please excuse the rainy pictures. Trying to beat upcoming snow, so I figured wet was better than snow-covered!! Good running vehicle, was one of our daily drivers up until last week when we upgraded to a newer model. Please feel free to email me with any questions. The Explorer is a 1999, and has pretty much every option available on an Eddie Bauer in 99' right down to lighted running boards. This thing was top of the line new. Good for a work vehicle, daily driver (with repairs), or parts vehicle. Will drive as-is, needs some routine work. The Good: Battery was just replaced a month ago when our first cold snap hit. With the new battery it starts easily, and does not waste any time getting out into traffic. See the specifications above for all the power options and such. The current center console in the vehicle is a little beat up- I have a complete replacement to include the wire harness, CD player, everything which will come with the vehicle. That fixes the worn console cover issue as well. Headlights are slightly yellowed but I also have an extra set of those which will come with the vehicle. Any other parts I find are part of the package as well. Spare tire has 100% tread. All components of the jack and crank system are there. Pistons which hold the hood open are new, likewise are the ones that hold up the rear glass. Pistons for the rear hatch do hold the hatch up, does not creep down as you load your groceries.... paperwork is all good, I have a clean title ready to transfer. Engine, AWD system, transmission all check out. They run smoothly and have plenty of power. Vehicle was never used to tow. Exhaust system should pass inspection without issue. The Repairs Needed: Blue book on the vehicle is still above $3000 in the worst condition. Just shy of $4000 in the best. As of now, it has the two usual Explorer issues, being the center console cover is worn/cracked and the radio display does not light up. We've owned several of this body style in my family, every one of them ended up with the same issue! Besides that, it is inspected through May of 2015. It was on the road up until last week, and I would not hesitate to drive it home but be aware the ABS light is on. Has been for some time now, has been driving fine. Expect some usual high-mileage issues which will need fixing such as rear suspension, slow oil leak (probably needs a seal), etc. It will need 3 tires to pass inspection next year. A mechanic friend of mine who has helped me work on several of my cars told me all total It would probably need about $1500 in parts within the near future. The only other major problem at the moment is what apparently is another Explorer/Ranger issue, when you start the vehicle in park, every once in a while it refuses to come out of park. Apparently this is a mechanical issue known to the model, and can be over-ridden by starting the vehicle in neutral instead. Low and behold, works every time. The fix for this issue was included in the $1500 estimate. The mechanical term is an issue with the Shifter Interlock Solenoid. If your a mechanic, I'm sure this all sounds familiar to you. The only other issue I want to note actually isn't an issue at all, but will seem like one up front. When I bought the vehicle it had what I assumed was an engine tick, and I planned on needing to replace the engine. After investigating however I realized that it isn't the engine at all which is making the sound, it is the fan/fan housing. Apparently is has a slight warp to it. I was told that if it didn't bother me, ignore it.
