Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1988 Cadillac Allante with 45,000 original miles. This was my father's car, and I recently inherited it, but have no interest in a two seater car (my father is in his 80's, I am in my 40's). The car drives very well and looks nice; I had a full tune up done earlier this Fall. It is not perfect, however, and here is a list of items that could be addressed by a new owner, although the car drives fine as is and I would drive it anywhere: ExteriorThe lower section of the front bumper is cracked. It will need to be replaced, as the crack is such that it can not be repaired. I have included a picture. If I kept the car, I would simply put a front end protective bra on the car. Along with the bumper, the front license plate holder is unusable. The radio antenna is broke, and is stuck (and bent) in the up position. This was the result of my father driving through a car wash and forgetting to turn the radio off.InteriorThe radio is not original, nor are the speakers. A pioneer marine radio was installed, along with a 6-Disc CD changer in the trunk. I do not have the original radio or speakers. The digital tachometer is beginning to fade. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.The map light assembly is there, but it is not in great shape.MechanicalThe blower control module will need to be replaced. I have detached it, but this is a common problem with these cars. A new unit is about $160 and its three screws to remove and install. The anti-lock brakes have been disconnected. My father had his mechanic do this. The system is fine, it is the sensors. My father did not drive the car enough to want to spend the money, so he had them disconnected. He's and old car guy (used to own a Studebaker dealership back in the 60's) and had the attitude, "I don't need anti-lock brakes; the basic brakes work just fine!" And they do. The car stops just as well as it drives.Everything else on the car is good, including the top. It does come with the hardtop and the original owner's manual. I also have the two "gold" keys. I have tried to describe the car as accurately as I can and I have it priced knowing that a new owner may want to address the issues listed above. I have a clear title. The car is being sold "as-is." Thanks.
