Vehicle Detail

1979 Trans Am Tenth Anniversary Edition. - 400/4spd - 1 of 1817. This vehicle has been garage kept since it was purchased several years ago. The car has always started quickly, runs strong and smoothly shifts through the gears. Ethanol free fuel. The paint looks quite nice but there are minor imperfections and flaws/nicks as with any paint job. It has the correct mirrored T-tops. Radio delete insert. Leather seats and shag carpeting - the 70s were great. The four speed cars are holding their value and this vehicle will only increase in price in the coming years - if you're reading this and have researched these cars, you see an average price of ~$20K and up for the 4 speed cars with the dealers asking $50/$60K...good luck with that. This car is considerably cheaper as I don't have the resources/time to address every issue. The only visible modification, from stock, are the subframe connectors. These add rigidity to the T-top cars. This has been driven/started at least monthly, to car shows and to other local commutes. Rear pinion seal replaced, differential gasket/gear oil changed, engine oil (Brad Penn) changes and not much else have been done to this car... two batteries. It has not seen the rain nor does it get washed by a hose. The underside looks clean, no signs of rust or other surprises. Is it a 37K mile car? ...my mechanic (GTO guy) believes it is but as it's 35 years old, it'd be a guess on my part. More photos available upon request - please contact me with any questions. Things/issues that I notice:Center caps on the rims have a slight click at low speed. Not a mechanical issue but the plastic inserts/tabs make a click at 5/10 mph.Slight grab of one/more brake pad on hard braking.Turn indicator stalk needs to be replaced.Driver's front spoiler appears to have been over-tightened on installation which suggests a repaint.Rear trunk spoilers are misaligned...but many were that way from the factory.Driver's door gap could be adjusted but opens/closes fine.Paint near rear window by molding shows chipping. Minor door ding on driver's door.AC is currently charged, however, I believe the compressor needs to be replaced as it developed a burnt smell to it so the belt was pulled. AC was working less than six months ago.Minor hiss from either the linkage or throwout bearing, but again, the gear interchange is solid and the clutch is firm. The car is sold as-is. A $500 non refundable deposit is required upon auction completion. The vehicle is listed locally and the auction could end earlier. On Nov-18-14 at 18:01:02 PST, seller added the following information: ***UPDATES*** So...general questions...for all. Yes, this is a numbers matching car - reference the VIN and numbers on the block. If E-bay dumbs down the image, I'll update it as it's hard to see. 2 is Pontiac, 9 is the year and L indicates the Van Nuys plant. It is a '78 block but all '79 400s are really 78 blocks.Build sheet - I have that somewhere but the VIN shows it as an "X" car with the "Z" code (400). I'm not sure what else the build sheet adds on the TATA cars but will dig around. Trunk pix - has the T-top covers, appears to be an original spare and some GM 1979 CO2 fix-a-flat equivalent? It will not haul dead bodies - get a 66 Lemans.Rusty doors/frame - NO. The car is quite clean...pic added. Driver's side is a little blurry but it's 45° in Florida and I didn't feel like rolling around in the rain. Perhaps Saturday if this is still an issue. Also, I don't have a lift but will try to snap some general underside shots. It appears to be that undercoating they put on cars back in the 70's...ziebart?The car is located in Florida, no I can't give out the reserve or buy-it-now...it really is an auction. Rest assured, it isn't a $40K+ price ...it has minor issues which I'll fix over the Christmas break when my job doesn't own me.I owe more responses....door ding, chips and such. Didn't expect this many questions or interest for that matter ...I will respond to more & add additional photos when the weather is better as time permits On Nov-23-14 at 05:15:04 PST, seller added the following information: ***LAST UPDATE*** Responses below DOCUMENTATION ...yes I found my docs, late last night. File cabinets are the devil...For what it's worth, it appears I am the third individual to register this car...docs will include original owner sales/GM docs, prior registrations + the window sticker data - see new pic.The original build sheet was located under the seat... DING - Image attached. I'd think a competent body man could probably work that out by pulling the door panel, tapping it back out, cutting back the decal, lighting sanding and airbrushing over the nick in two/three hours.
