Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here is a 1967 MGB-GT. This car had been stored in a basement for many years. The car starts, runs, drives and stops under its own power. It is still a project and needs certain things done for it to be a solid driver. I’ll try and break the car down into the positive and negative points. Positive Points: Engine compression on #1 cylinder 137 lbs #2 - 134lbs #3 – 133lbs #4 – 135 lbs. Oil pressure at idle is between 45 – 50lbs. Valve springs and top half of the engine extremely clean. Water pump looks fairly new. Oil cooler and lines look fairly new. Motor mounts look fairly new. Engine compartment is very clean. The transmission shifts smoothly in all gears. It has a 1968 transmission which adds a synchronized first gear. The brakes are excellent. The clutch is good with no release bearing noise. Steering has no excess play. Gas tank is not the original, hard to tell how old it is, but looks good. The car starts immediately. The car has solid floors and is solid underneath. Here’s what works as far as the electrics: headlights - high and low beams; parking lights all the way around; turn signals all the way around, brake lights, license plate lights, wipers, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and speedometer. Choke works. Heater control valve works. It has a set of chrome wire wheels that have not hit a curb, no bent or missing spokes. I completely cleaned the wire wheel that was in the worst condition and I would give it a solid B (see pictures). It has 3 older Firestone tires that have no cracks and have plenty of tread. The interior seats have no cracks but are faded from age. The hood opens and closes as it should. Doors open and close as they should. The rear hatch opens and closes with good springs. It has an original MG jack. Negative Points: The car had very bad fuel in it after sitting for years. The British car dealer I bought the car from changed the oil and plugs. The dealer added fresh gas to get it running. I have tried to flush the system but the car still runs a little rough at idle from the remaining bad gas. It may smooth out after running through a tank of gas. It needs a good tune up and maybe the carburetors cleaned or rebuilt. I only added 2 gals of gas so I could drive the car around the block a couple of times. The seam on top of the back driver’s side rear fender is a cosmetic eye sore and a poor job of trying to repair. Some rust in the seam on the driver’s side front fender, but not nearly as bad as rear the fender. Some bondo above rear wheel arches. The carpet is completely shot and seat foams are worn. Fuel gauge does not work (the float is probably stuck and with a full tank of gas it may release). Tachometer does not work. Emergency brake does not work. Horn does not work. I have compounded and waxed the car and the paint still holds a very nice shine. It has a few nicks and scratches but looks very good from 20 feet, I would not repaint. The chrome is old and spider webbed but looks ok from a distance. Door glass has scratches from being rolled up and down. Right front tire needs to be replaced. I think this is a good general description but keep in mind that pictures make a 48 year old car appear to be in a little better cosmetic condition so look at the pictures closely. Please email me if you have questions as the car is sold as-is without warranty since it is a 48 year old classic. I bought this car for a winter project but decided not to keep it after partially tearing my rotator cuff and I need physical therapy. I have a fully restored MGA so I really don’t need it. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping. I am retired so would be available during the day.
