Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1959 Ford Thunderbird convertible. Car is in very good original condition. It has spent the vast majority of its years with 2 owners who definitely took good care of this piece of automobile history. It spent over 35 years as the car of a doctor’s wife in New Rochelle, NY and was NOT driven winters. Body is remarkably solid… not the usual rot or soft areas on frame or floor. Doors, fenders, quarter panels and trunk pan are near perfect. Car has had one repaint which is showing some age but still buffs up nicely. It looks good from 10 feet. Original 352 Interceptor has been rebuilt and runs great… no smoke or knocks and starts right up. New clutch… that’s right I said clutch! When was the last time you saw a convertible square bird with a 3 speed manual with overdrive!! RARE!!! The car handles beautifully, no shakes or rattles. Steering is smooth, as is the braking. Correct dual exhaust with resonators. Sounds great! Tires are good, no cracks with plenty of tread. Original radio works, as do the gauges with the exception of the gas gauge… not consistent. The interior has its original leather seats with a beautiful 55 year old patina!! I wouldn’t change a thing… they are original!!!! Besides, they cleaned up nice and are very comfortable. The rug is new and the dash looks great… no cracks or faded areas. As you can see from the pictures the chrome is driver’s quality… very presentable and shines up beautifully. It has minimal pitting. The window glass is good with no micro-cracks or delamination. The wrap around windshield has no blemishes. The top I was told is original and in very good condition. The white canvas does not leak and the back window is clear. Note in the pictures that the top frame still has its original factory red paint. The top goes up and down with no issues whatsoever. Overall this is a very solid original Thunderbird that runs and looks very good. Eye catching with its classic Raven black exterior, white top and red interior! It is not a show car, but is a nice driver’s quality classic. Reserve is reasonable, so happy bidding. Enjoy the pictures, and feel free to email if you have any questions.
