I'm reluctantly selling my 1981 Jetta diesel. I love this car but the boss wants me to get something a little more grown up now that I will be dropping my kids off at school.This is a Jetta MK1, meaning its the first model Jetta ever made. If you're a hipster you're head is probably exploding right now. But it's almost impossible to find this year Jetta in this good of shape. I did a global Craigslist search and zero 81 jetta's show up. I also looked on ebay motors and none show up there either.The body is in pretty good shape for the year, has it's typical scratches and one larger dent near the rear bumper. Previous owner said someone drove it and backed into the garage. It has very little rust for the age, only a few minor rust spots. It has a little over 260,000 miles but it starts right up and drives great. I'd be confident driving this thing across country. The A/C still works but the heater core needs to be replaced, so no heat. It sat all winter last year because of no heat but it's been my daily driver all summer. I've got the new heater core but just haven't had time to put it in.I've put all new glow plugs in, new glow plug relay, new battery, new windshield, new fuel line hoses. The driver side window lift rail needs to be replaced, I just ordered the part last night. I can change that or you can, it will literally take 30 min to do. The tires and brakes seem to be good, a little soft but it's an 81 so that might just be how brakes were back then. The interior is in pretty good shape. There are seat covers on the front seat and the back seat almost looks new.
