This is a no reserve auction and the 240Z will be sold regardless of price, on or off auction.    This particular auction is for an authentic original matching numbers ONE OWNER CALIFORNIA 1972 Datsun 240Z as shown just removed from long term storage.    Nowadays it is hard for the do it yourselfer to find an original car worthy and inexpensive enough to drive and/or restore. A lot of the vintage cars have been given a one week restoration" hiding many sins and covering up interesting historic indicators of time. Many of the leftovers are either glossed over "restored" cars or rusty beaters. I prefer cars in their untouched original condition. Most original survivors have disappeared and an untouched original, even if it has problems, gives a fairly accurate assessment of it's overall condition and history and what kind of work needs to be done, if any. An untouched original is also much easier to work on. This is such a car. I will answer all email questions. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   ONE OWNER.......This is a documented one owner 1972 Datsun 240Z that starts, runs and drives and can be used as it stands or restored easily to any level. If you are looking for an untouched, unmodified original 240Z you can't do much better than this. It is an almost rust free car with the original paint and a 1987 repaint completely faded and worn out from the California sun. I bought this car from a friends estate. Her husband bought it brand new in 6-12-72 at Long Beach Datsun in Long Beach California. He used the car from new in California and then moved to Alabama and stored it there. It comes with a lot of original paperwork. A California title, original window sticker, all manuals and plenty of receipts as shown. The window sticker shows a price of $4210.50 but with the addition of ARA air conditioning, Shelby 500 15 inch wheels (15 inch, not 14 inch) and rustproofing the total came to $5722.00. The original interior is well worn but useable. No accidents, no unseen damage. Odometer shows 62,345 miles. It was maintained extremely well and runs good. Last piece of paperwork that we have shows the mileage around 95000, so it probably has 162,345 miles on it or the speedometer may have been replaced. ENGINE:    Starts easily and runs well. No smoke, no noises, has excellent, high oil pressure and runs cool and quiet. Original good dual carburetors are tight, not worn or frozen and function very well. Oil is clean. Cylinders and valve train have been inspected with a remote camera and everything looks clean and solid and undamaged. Choke works fine. Engine sounds strong, healthy and very responsive. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH/REAR END:    Transmission and clutch function normally as driven. It has not been driven down the road for lack of a license plate but the clutch works very well and the transmission shifts as it should going up and down my 1/8 mile driveway. The clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder were just installed brand new as their condition was questionable from long term storage. Two of the u joints in the half shafts are getting loose. The rear end has a whine in it which may be helped by replacing the mounting bushings - it is basically metal to metal mounting. ALL of the rubber bushings/mounts for the entire chassis need replacing. ENGINE COMPARTMENT:   Nice and solid and straight. Everything works, including the original tethered work light. No rust. Radiator is original and in good condition with no leaks. Has a brand new battery.   TRUNK COMPARTMENT:   Very solid, no rust original as shown. Original 15 inch spare tire has never been used.   EXTERIOR SHEET METAL BODY PANELS:   Check the photos. All straight as a die - no dents or other damage. Some minor isolated rust areas as shown in the photos. EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:   The original bumpers are in nice, straight, undamaged drivers condition. It has the optional bumper rails front and rear. Most of the other chrome is good because it is original stainless steel . PAINT:   It was repainted once in 1987 ($500) the correct silver color because of fading in California with the typical cheap paint of the day over the original factory paint. All of the brown/gray spots you see are simply the old original factory paint and brown factory primer under the worn out and faded repaint.   GLASS:   All of the glass is original and good. Windows roll up and down easily. Original rear defogger glass is intact and good. CHASSIS:   The chassis underneath looks to be in excellent undamaged unrotted original condition, including floor pans. It was rustproofed from new. Original dealer invoice shows that the customer paid additional for undercoating/rustproofing before delivery. INTERIOR/Upholstery:   All factory original and useable as is as shown but in need of replacement. The passenger door handle is broken and can only be opened from the inside. Has the center arm rest. Original seat belts are there. The shoulder harnesses are there - they were kept in the storage compartment and not used. DASH AREA:   A good presentable original dash with original gauges. The top dash pad is cracked. Working: Speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, ammeter gauge, water temperature gauge, horns, original Hitachi AMFM radio and power antenna, headlights, turn signals, windshield wipers, carburetor choke, bonnet release handle, rear window defogger, heater fan, air conditioning fan and temperature control. Not working: Clock, rear taillights, (none of the rear lights work for some reason), dash lights. AIR CONDITIONING:   Complete original ARA air conditioning unit. Dealer invoice shows that the customer paid additional for the air conditioning to be installed at the dealership before delivery. Everything works but does not blow cold air. A/C clutch works. TIRES & WHEELS:   The very rare Shelby 500 15 inch slotted Mag wheels as shown are included. Dealer invoice shows that the customer paid additional for these wheels to be installed at the dealership before delivery. These are 15 inch wheels, not 14 inch. Tires on it are Michelin X 205 60 R15, are worn and need replacing. The original spare Toyo tire (175HR14) and wheel are still new, intact and have never been used or mounted. EXHAUST:   The exhaust is a sound original replacement and useable. Original 240z sportscar sound. SUSPENSION AND BRAKES:   All suspension and braking mechanisms are intact. The brakes work. Rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes and all 4 rubber brake lines were recently installed brand new. Nothing was replaced on the front discs as they seem to work OK. May need more work in that area but it stops. Emergency brake assembly is intact and works. MISCELLANEOUS:   Car starts, runs and drives, so no problem with transport or shuttling. PAPERWORK:    Comes with the California title and California and Alabama registrations. Included is a complete package of original Datsun items as shown, such as the original window sticker, original dealers sales contract, owners manual with vinyl Long Beach Datsun owners manual pouch, Hitachi AMFM radio brochure, ARA air conditioning brochure and unused ARA sticker, maintenance reseipts. FACTORY ID PLATE:   The Vehicle identification ID plates are intact and correct. The vehicle serial number is HLS30-75129. Engine number is L24-094654, original to the car.   REVIEW:   This is a 42 year old sports car and should be looked at with this in mind. Most everything on the car is 42 years old. However, it is an attractive classic that has spent it's life in the dry West and can be finished in many ways or driven as it stands. It can be used as a driver while upgrading areas on the car or can be rebooted into a fine classic in a relatively short time. One owner survivor cars like this have mostly disappeared. INSPECTION OF CAR:   As always, it is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. If you elect not to do this you will have one of three outcomes after purchasing the car. #1. The car will be exactly as you thought it would be from the auction description and photos and you will be happy. #2. The car will be less than you thought it would be and you will be unhappy. #3. The car will be more than you thought it would be and you will be more than happy. And I will be the same in each case. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had 100% excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same.
