Vehicle Detail
1980 Mercedes diesel already converted to run on Waste Vegetable Oil197 thousand miles. I will take Pay Pal. Either pick up locally or arrange your own prepaid shipping. This is a TWO tank conversion. The big main fuel tank for vegetable oil has a fuel gauge on the dash, but the 2nd tank for diesel fuel has no fuel gauge. Features: This is a two tank conversion. The original tank that came with the car is now for used cooking oil. It has aluminum tubing epoxied to it with heat conductive epoxy and radiator water runs though this tubing to heat the vegetable oil. See the photo. Also the fuel lines going to and from this tank are heated too. A five gallon gas can was installed to put the diesel fuel in. The idea is when the weather is cold, you start on diesel fuel and switch to vegetable oil when the this tank and fuel lines are heated up enough. Then you switch to the diesel tank on the way home so that the next start will be using diesel fuel. There is a switch on the dash that has a LED light. When the light is lit, you are running on the diesel tank. By the way, if you forget to switch tanks, the car starts right up with vegetable oil in most California weather. The valves were recently adjusted. GOOD tires, nearly new. The photos show one front tire and one rear tire. The car comes full completely filled up with fuel, which is more than 20 gallons. Included is 4 containers of filtered vegetable oil too, which amounts to about 18 more gallons. These are plastic containers just for automobile fuel. Included is about 15 gallons of unfiltered vegetable oil. The upholstery is looking good. The body has only minor scratches and no significant dents. The paint job still looks real good. I just had the breaks checked and no break work is needed any time soon. Included is an extra new fuel filter for the engine. Included is a bunch of filters to filter the oil using gravity feed. The oil goes though a water trap, then a wire mesh filter, and then two diesel truck spin on fuel filters. You will have to make the water filter but I will show the new owner how to make one using a large jar with a lid and some copper tubing. The one I got is shot. Also you need to clean out the mesh filter. Included is two 3rd party repair manuals. The odometer, and clock have been repaired, fixing what goes wrong most often in old Mercedes. So you won't have to worry about those. All dash gauges work. The engine starts right up and runs like a dream. Included with the car is the hardware for the spin-on truck fuel filters used to filter the cooking oil. Also included are the pulleys for the rope for the gravity feed. This car has real bumpers, not like a lot of new cars. They are substantial. At the price of diesel fuel and bio-diesel, these days, this would be a great car for someone mechanically inclined who is willing to gather and filter used cooking oil. Squawks: The air conditioner does not work. The bezel for the AM/FM radio does not stay on. It need some attention. The car pulls ever so slightly to the right when driving it. One hub cap has some paint chipped off. See the photo. The head lights need adjusting. The glove compartment latch won't catch by just closing it There is a way to close it to stay closed and I will show the new owner how to do this. There is a vacuum tube running into the dash area that I blocked off. I don't know what it is for. I read some Internet instructions telling me to block it off as a first step to stop this vacuum leak. I could not find the rest of the instructions on the Internet. The new owner will need to have this checked out. The car is running fine this way. The rear window heater does not work. I don't know why. The automatic door locks work fine most of the time, but won't work properly in cold weather. They run on vacuum. There is one heater control on the dash that has a missing knob. I never replaced the break fluid for 30,000 miles so it is long past due. You should do this. The control to increase the idle speed in cold weather does not work. It seems to be stuck. I never was in weather cold enough to need it in California.
