Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1958 Edsel Ranger, 2-door hardtop, purchased in 2000. The engine is a 361 V-8 with a three-speed automatic transmission and power steering. This car is in running, drivable condition. This car has a clean title. The VIN number is 963AK58-172395, which translates into: 963A (Ranger 2-door hardtop), K (Production Plant in Oakville, Ontario, Canada), 58 (1958) and 172395 is the production sequence. This is a Canadian built Edsel and was not sold at Wilde Motor Sales as the bumper sticker would lead one to believe. I do not have access to a paint/trim decoder for the 58 Edsels produced in Canada. I was told the “E3” paint code refers to “Torch Red” but I cannot verify this. Interior: Both seats (front/back) were rebuilt and covered with new (not Edsel) material. · The carpet were replaced with new black carpet. · The headliner and sun visors were not replaced and are discolored from age. · The padded dash is cracked in several places and material is hard and brittle from age. · Original radio is in the car but is not functional. A hidden radio with AM/FM was installed and works great. · The door panels were not replaced but are in decent condition. · Paint on the steering column is chipped and missing in several places. · The rear shelf was replaced and covered in gray carpet. · The Dial-Temp Heater/Air Control servo and cables were replaced in 2010 and all of the positions and fan motor work (car does NOT have air conditioning). · The clock is functional. · The hood latch handle fell off the release cable. I still have the handle but currently use pliers. The hood release cable is easy to operate. · The gauges and speedometer unit are all working. Trunk: · The trunk is in good but dirty condition. · The metal is solid throughout the trunk with minor surface rust in a few areas. · I do not have any truck panels, carpet, or a spare tire/jack for this car. Exterior: · Paint is an old paint job from a previous owner and is worn in some areas. · The paint has bubbled in a few areas (e.g. front of hood and passenger front fender). · Rust has started to appear in a few places (e.g. underneath/around the stainless trim in some areas). · Chips in the paint from rocks and other road debris. · Stainless steel trim is faded from age and a piece on the driver’s side rear fender, above the scallop, is dented in several places. · Several of the chromed pieces are worn and a few have started to pit from age. · Both sets of bumpers are faded and the chrome has started to flake with light surface rust. · On the driver side rear fender, a previous owner brushed on red paint (above the scallop). · The front fender on the passenger side has several scratches in the paint and appears to be filler on the bottom by the door. · The passenger door is difficult to latch, i.e. the door mechanism is worn and sometimes the door needs shut 1-3 times before the mechanism engages and the door latches. · The side mirrors are aftermarket mirrors that are faded and heavily pitted. The antenna is an aftermarket piece but is fully functional. · Windshield has light scratches from the windshield wipers. · The “E” in the hood ornament spins freely but has remained in place at highway speeds. · All of the exterior lights work. More information: · This car does NOT have the Teletouch automatic transmission. The transmission is a three speed column shift automatic. · Has power steering, but not power brakes. · The windshield wipers are vacuum powered and worked in the past (wiper motor replaced in 2001). I have not tried them recently. · The transmission was rebuilt in 2003 by a reputable transmission shop. · The power steering unit was replaced in 2000. The upper and lower control arms and bushings were also replaced at this time. · Generator light remains on after starting car but the battery is not discharged. Repolarized the regulator but the light remains on. I have a new regulator that is included with the car. · Small oil leak from the rear main seal on the engine. · Exhaust system uses aluminized pipe and was installed in at a reputable muffler shop in 2001. · Original carburetor replaced with a new Holley 600 CFM 4 barrel carburetor (vacuum secondaries) with electric choke in 2010. · The torque converter was replaced in 2010. · The brakes shoes and hardware were replaced in 2000 (front and rear, drums turned). The 1958 Edsel does NOT have self-adjusting brakes. · The heater is not working due to a valve in the heater core not opening. I have a NOS valve from a reputable Edsel parts dealer and this is included with the car. · The tires were replaced with radial tires in 2000. The car is sold as is, without warranty. With all pre-owned vehicles, the condition is subjective. Any errors are unintentional. They have small dings, small scratches, and minor imperfections. The interior may also be worn due to corresponding miles on vehicle. Please be advised that you should expect a certain amount of wear and flaws from a used vehicle that you would not expect from purchasing a new vehicle. Deposit: A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 24 hours of winning the auction and full payment of balance is required within 7 days. Pickup of vehicle must be within 14 business days and buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly cooperate. Paypal is the preferred method of payment for the deposit. The balance can be paid with Money Order or Cashier’s Check. If you are not sure about something, Please ASK. Do not assume anything not listed is included. More pictures can be provided upon inquiry. Ask questions if you have them and I welcome inspections if you would like to look at it or drive it.
