Vehicle Detail
1990 Mazda Miata 161k miles. Clear title in-hand. Manual transmission. Purchased in Jan. of 2012 with the intent of turning into a low-budget endurance racer (Chump Car). If you're looking for a cheap daily driver, keep looking. If you are looking for a project or parts car, this just might be the one for you! Comes with Haynes Manual. Previous owner used it as a daily driver and had just started to recondition it, but he lost his job and needed the money. Condition... Overall I would list it as being in poor condition. Most of the work listed below was done in the spring of 2012. We conditioned the gas in it for the winter of 2013 and it has sat in the garage since. It hadn't been started in over 2 years. I checked the oil, radiator and gas, installed a battery and it immediately started up. Any 20+ year old car that can sit for 2 years and start right up makes me think I want to keep it, but the wife says it has to go! Rust galore underneath. Frame rails have rust and a couple of holes and the floor boards are starting to rust away. Yes, you can see the road beneath your feet from the drivers seat (see photo). After 2+ years sitting in the garage there was just a few drops of engine oil on the floor. Not sure if there is a leak or if it was from when we replaced the oil. We didn't drive it enough (to know if it burns oil at all). Headlights work fine. Wipers go back and forth on command. Turn signals work, but we believe the driver's side rear bulb burned out. That or the mice got to it / haven't checked yet. Exterior is rough. Paint is peeling. Cloth top is in tact, but missing back window. Interior. Seats are ripped/dirty. Hate to say it, but the trunk smells a bit like a dead mouse. We're airing it out now, but no promises as to the freshness when you pick it up. Remember it did sit in a garage for 2 and a half years! Windows go up and down on command and it seems like all of the knobs and switches work. Parking/emergency brake? It's there, but there is no resistance when you pull it up. Gas cap, trunk release and engine hood levers all work fine. Work done in the spring of 2012 shortly after we purchased it... New radiator, radiator hoses and clamps. New timing belt. New serpentine belt. New spark plugs and spark plug wires. Rebuilt alternator. We changed the engine oil and filter. Has a new air filter. I should be able to find receipts for most of that stuff to go along with the car. Parts taken out during that time... Radiator fan (took the old unit out and have yet to buy a new one). Air conditioning unit. Old one was removed since we planed on racing it. Radiator (replaced it). Pretty sure we still have everything we pulled out and will go with the car if you buy it. Definitely needs... Tires have dry-rot and 2 have slow leaks so it should have all 4 replaced. Brake pads have work down and rotors are rusty. Bushings are completely shot / missing so it wiggles a bit. Once they're replaced I'd expect to handle nicely. Sounds like a race car when you start it so it definitely needs an exhaust. We have extra parts and will sell (separately from this auction) at a discounted price including 4 new tires., 4 new brake rotors, new bushing kit, new exhaust/muffler, new engine oil filter, new air filter, used control arms from a yard. Again these parts do not come with the car, but will be for sale at a discounted price following the auction. Bottom line... Car is a mess overall, but it starts and runs, shifts through the gears and in our opinion a worthwhile project for someone willing to invest the time. We've done our best to represent the car accurately, but may have missed something. We can make arrangements for you to see the car in person prior to bidding if you like. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions and good luck bidding! On Sep-10-14 at 12:54:47 PDT, seller added the following information:
