Vehicle Detail
Volvo 1800S Manufactured during 1967 (vin 24646) but titled as a 1968 car. Without exaggeration, this is a survivor car. Completely stock except for the 1972/1973 grill, radio, and replaced ignition coil. It is extremely rare to find the original mono radio speaker, (not cut up to add stereo speakers back in the 1970’s). This was a very unique transition time for the auto industry; new regulations were coming into effect in 1968 and 1969 which negatively affected styling, but positively affected safety. For example, in 1968 4 way emergency flashers were required, as well as dual circuit brakes, which this car has. Yet many 1968 models had the ugly amber and red side marker lenses, which this car does not. This car also has the better SU HS-6 carburators, which were changed to Strombergs in the model year 1969. Yet this car possesses the larger rear brakes and other upgrades made throughout the product lifecycle. Therefore I believe this is absolutely the best year for a great looking and driving 1800S. Many subtle original aspects still exist, including the wiring, especially under the dash. The mud flaps, stone guards; trunk liner, even the carburetor tags are still there; and the original windshield with the rare 4 speed window sticker still attached. The windshield washer bottle was replaced, the tires have been replaced in the original size with only 300 miles on them. The clock does not work, and the Girling power assist booster stopped working about a month ago, so I by passed it and have been driving it this way for a couple hundred miles. Both top and bottom dashboards are cracked but are original. Also all fluids have been changed, rubber brake lines were replaced, as well as the drum brake components and parking brake cables, and grommets, and tune-up parts. The H-4 headlights in the pictures are not included in the sale. The car will be outfitted with the stock sealed beams, same was provided when sold new. Although the history is not well known, it did start life in Oregon and most recently was in Rhode Island and Maine. Presently it is located near West Point in NY. The odometer indicated 84K miles most likely it is 184K but I really can't tell. I doubt it has more than that. In either case, you are getting a very original car in a great color that was well cared for. This car drives incredibly well, and is more comfortable than the British sports cars on long trips. You can pack it for the weekend or just drive around town. Sometimes I just go into the garage and look at it. Sounds silly, but it is such a great looking car, even standing still. I will also be advertising the car locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. Good luck bidding. This is such a great car and whoever wins the bid, gets a great car. I can help arrange for ocean freight if needed. On Sep-15-14 at 14:39:48 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks to the advise of a bidder, the clock has been fixed. Apparently I just had to start it again.
