Vehicle Detail
For sale, 1958 Edsel PAcer four door hardtop. She is one step away from being a running, driving unit. The tires are aired up and not leaking. Only one is in good shape as far as tread goes. The original 361 engine is gone and theres a 390 FE V8 from a '76 F250 in there now. It has a rebuilt carb on it. The generator is gone and has a GM, one-wire alternator setup. The Tele-touch (push-button) transmission steering column is gone and in it's place is a 1958 Mercury column with a column shift. Brakes have been bled and the drums have been busted loose since it hasn't moved in three years. All of the exterior lights work except the brake lights (switch plunger is bad). Dash lights and floating speedometer work as well as turn signals. Even the GLOVE BOX light works. Horn, wipers, lighter, radio don't work. Blower motor works, but heater core is bypassed. Trunk key is missing, but you can open it from the inside. Interior needs total restoration. Upholstery, dashpad, headliner, carpet all need to be redone. The body is fairly solid, but theres a couple spots of bad rust. The worst is the floorboard right at the gas pedal. The rear rockers are gone, but trunk floor is solid. Front fenders are rusty at the rockers. There's some surface rust on the car. The car was originally dark blue with light blue scallops and top. Somebody replaced the front right fender with a sky blue fender and then the car was painted dark green with light green scallops and roof in the 1960's. The body is salvagable. I was planning on patching the floor and fenders and making a rat rod out of it, or just repainting it original colors and driving it as a survivor car. Trunk floor is solid. The history of this car is an interesting one. The car is registered on Edsel.com. She was stamped in the Louisville, KY plant on August 22, 1957 (if my memory serves me right). Original color is dark blue, light blue scallops and top. 361 V8 (E-400) engine and dual-range automatic came stock. This car is a power steering car, but no power brakes, no A/C, no power options. Originally came with padded sunvisors (one broke and is in the trunk, with a standard one in it's place), cigar lighter, heater, two-toned paint, full-hubcaps. The first owner drove it until 1971 (according to the previous owner) until it threw a rod and they mothballed the car in a barn. The previous owner put some tires on it and attached a trailer tongue (hence the steel brakcets on the bumper) and flat-towed her home about 8 miles to Watertown, WI. I bought it on Ebay and replaced the engine, converted the electrical system, converted the Tele-touch to column shift (for reliability purposes), bled the brakes, and put some tires on her. It drove under it's own power for the first time since 1971 about three years ago. The carb was the original carb and kept flooding the engine. After about three miles, the car started stalling and sputtering. Gas pooled in the muffler and when I tried to start it, the skin blew off the muffler. I had it towed home and put a rebuilt carb on it a year later. I would start it every couple of months, but never drove it after that. It'll idle and you might be able to get it moving, but I would suggest bringing a trailer. You don't want a 50 year old car to stall on the highway. Tow it home and go through it, is my suggestion. I will try to scrounge a decent battery since the one in there is kind of shot. The car has a clean title and has that certain "survivor" look to it. It can be restored on the cheap and look ok, made into a rat rod, custom cruiser, or just drive it as is, like a "barn find." I can't deliver. You'll have to come pick it up. I would prefer being paid in cash, but I would take Paypal (begrudgingly). Car is located in Wadsworth, IL 60083. Near Great America, north of Chicago. Make this rare and unique car yours and own a piece of American Automotive History! Happy bidding! Just to clarify, some of the pics are old. The tires are not flat anymore and the hubcaps are off. It has a set of 1970 Ford Falcon hubcaps on there. There's only one original Edsel hubcap and I plan on keeping it. Theres also a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner under the hood. The original Edsel air cleaner and the 76 Ford air cleaner are in the trunk. Hood ornament and trunk key are missing. On Aug-31-14 at 11:17:29 PDT, seller added the following information: I have the car for sale locally and can end the auction at any time. On Sep-04-14 at 09:10:08 PDT, seller added the following information: The car needs some work done to the accelerator pump on the carb. It will idle fine, but stumble when you try to accelerate. Supposedly, its a simple fix, but I have never changed out the rubber diaphragm on an accelerator pump before. She still needs a new battery. The one in it can start a Honda or Toyota, but not an Edsel. She has a set of 1970 Ford Falcon hubcaps on it, now.
