Vehicle Detail
Fiat 850 Spider 1970 for parts or restore We bought this car used August 29, 1972, so that my wife would have an economical car for a 75-mile commute she was then making. When it became worn out, we retired the car, intending to overhaul it and keep it as a fun car for the kids. I bought genuine Fiat parts to overhaul it, but never did. Note the parts 1973 sales receipt for rings, bearings, gasket set, hoses, thermostat and starter brushes. (Can you believe those prices for OEM parts? Prices HAVE gone up a bit in the last 41 years!) The parts go with the car. As can be seen from the pictures, the body is very rusty, but the interior is actually in fairly decent shape. (The wire spring cushions seen on the seats were necessary for summer driving, since the black vinyl seats were very hot to sit on in the summer, and the car has no air conditioning.) We replaced the top sometime in 1972, but it has shrunk in the decades since so the top cannot be latched at the front. Whether the top could be heated and stretched to where the top could be latched again is unknown. The car has been sitting in an old cattle shed since we parked it in 1973, so it has been under cover, but not really in closed cover. As can be seen, the squirrels liked to deposit walnut shells in any place they could get to. The reason the car is on bare wheels with no tires is because we had put four studded snow tires on it for winter driving, and we later used those tires on another car. I had never remounted the wheels after removing them to “harvest” the tires, leaving it sitting on blocks ever since. The four mounted tires pictured go with the car, but they will not hold air because the beads are rusty and will no longer seal the tubeless tires. I put the bare wheels on the car to pull it out of the shed. It rolls fine on the steel wheels. I have tried to explain above what I know about the car, but I will try to answer any emailed questions in a timely manner. Obviously, the car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS, AS SHOWN, without warranty, but with a clear title. The car is located on a farm near Onawa, Iowa, which is on Interstate 29 between Omaha, Nebraska and Sioux City, Iowa. Certified funds required within 7 days of close. NON-REFUNDABLE $100 deposit by PayPal required within 24-hours of close. Buyer must arrange to pick up or ship the vehicle. Payment must clear before the buyer can take possession.
