Vehicle Detail

1938 Packard Super 8 Rumble Seat Coupe. Award Winner. Ready to Tour. VIDEO. 1938 Packard 1604 Super Eight 2/4 Passenger Coupe Listed on behalf of the owner by Charvet Classic Cars. This restored 1938 Packard Super Eight Coupe is one of 6 known to exist today, from a total production estimated at less than 100. This was a sporting model designated as a "2/4 passenger" coupe (two inside and two intrepid friends in the rumble seat.) Living in California most of its life, this car received a full restoration some years ago. For the last 20+ years it has resided in Oregon with members of the Packard Club and Classic Car Club. When restored, this car was set-up for touring and is a veteran of many Classic Car and Packard outings through the Pacific Northwest. It has always been absolutely reliable and a pleasure to drive on highways or byways. When restored, it received a full repaint in correct "Packard Cream" color with oxblood red pin striping. Paint is excellent. All chrome was replated at that time and the car presents beautifully today. The upholstery is a blend of restored and original, with only some wear noted on the interior seat backs as testiment to its many miles of touring. The rumble seat leather and interior are in excellent condition, including the folding leather arm rests. The dashboard, steering wheel and interior trim are in the correct 1938 gunmetal grey color. All gauges work and register accurately. The rebuilt straight 8, 320 cubic inch, 130 HP engine runs beautifully and whisper quiet. No smoke or issues of any kind. Always served by Packard experts. Thermostatic radiator shutters work perfectly. 3 speed transmission shifts crisply and is easy to drive. It has traveled thousands of miles without incident. New radial wide whitewall tires were recently installed less than 1000 miles ago. This car is highly optioned with dual-sidemounted spare tires with covers and mirrors, dual golf club doors, dual Trippe driving lights, Packard trunk rack, plus working Packard radio and heater. Turn signals were also added for touring. Besides being a tour veteran, this car has been shown at many Classic Car Club, Packard Club and other shows and judged concours where it has consistently placed among the best in class or best in show. It's perfect for someone who truly wants the best of both worlds: show or go. The only reason for selling is to make room in the garage. This is a unique oportunity to acquire a Full Classic Packard in a desirable, low-production body style, that will take you anywhere in style. There is truly nothing like a Packard. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its rarity and quality. Please bid accordingly. Fly-in and drive it home. Oregon is beautiful this time of year. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS, WORLDWIDE. Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK! If the video link below is inactive, please go to: http://youtu.be/iWtTcbRSIVQ (Note that the VIN# shown on the car today is a number designated by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles. 1938 Packards used a wet-transfer decal that contained data information in place of the usual stamped metal plate used on all other years. Over the years, heat under the hood caused the 1938 decals to become illegible. See photo. Packard originally designated this a Model 1604-1118: Super Eight, 2/4 Coupe.)
