Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1970 Ford Torino GT. I have spent the last several years restomoding this car to make it a reliable driver car. I just finished it and now find I have to sell it at the very end of all my work. My loss, your gain. First, please understand what you are looking at. This is not a restoration car. This car is not original. It has been modified to make it look like an old car but drive like a new car. It is a awesome looking car and very reliable. This car was built to be a hot rod from the start. The 1970 Torino is one of the sexiest car out there with it's wide hips and long, low lines. And this one has been enhanced to make it one of the best performing and most reliable Torino's out there. Because of the mods I have made, it starts every time, runs like it should, drives and handles nice. This is a car you can own and drive for many years to come and just enjoy. The car drives like it should, looks great, is clean and shiny, runs right, starts everytime, no shakes, no funny noises, no clunking. The Drive Train: The engine started life as a 2bbl 351C. This is the engine you want because you get the low end streetable torque the 4 bbl versions don't have. The 2 bbl heads have been ported and polished and flow tested to optimize performance. It also has Crane Roller Rockers, high compression valve springs, flat top pistons, Edlebrock 4 bbl manifold, Holly 4 bbl Projection Fuel injection system. The engine has about 1000 miles on it since it was rebuilt top to bottom. It runs like it should, with a slight lope from the big cam. Includes a GM style HEI distributor for great spark. Oil pressure runs about 60 psi. Drive it anywhere you want with confidence. Very nice combination of streetable torque with power and reliability. Runs great on pump gas. Additionally, I worked with Modern Drivelines in Montana to install a Tremec Rover TR3650 5-speed stick shift. The transmission is brand new from the factory. The TR3650 is the stick shift transmissions used in new Mustangs and Camaro's. The Rover TR3650's are the heavy duty version with all the good stuff for high torque applications like this 351C. I installed an original Torino clutch pedal assembly and modified it to operate a new cable clutch system with new Ram Clutch assembly and flywheel from Summit Racing. This also included a conversion to a modern high torque starter from the new Mustangs. I also added a cable X speedometer converter to take the electronic output from the transmission and connect that to the original speedometer. Works spot on. With the 5 speed, you can do a burn out if that's your thing, or you can cruise down the highway at 70 mph at about 2300 RPM. The car does both equally well. The 9" rear end was rebuilt with new Richmond 3:55 gears and a Richmond Powertrax locker rear end for traction. I also installed a new drive shaft. The car also has traction bars installed. I also installed a new set of Hooker headers with a new dual exhaust stystem all the way out the back with 3" Chrome tips at the end from Perogie Enterprises. The sound is perfect. It barks when you step on it and it quiets down when you are cruising. Great sound and great performance. Steering and Suspension: To improve the handling of the car, the wheels were changed to modern Cragar 17"X9" rims and fitted with 50 series BG Goodrich Z-rated tires at all four corners. The tires and wheel are the absolute largest you can stuff in the wheel wells. I then worked to optimize the shock and spring rates to get the correct ride height, ride quality, all while making it carve corners. Once I got that right, I installed a modern Borgeson Power steering box to eliminated the horrible Ford power steering system then replaced the tie rods, ball joints, and a-arm bushings to bring everything back up to spec. I also installed a wood grant steering wheel. The car also includes factory power disc brakes, drums in back, all stock. With the wheels and tires, as well as the lower stance and refined shock and spring rates, this thing corners like it is on rails. Yet it rides smooth and soft. Pretty amazing for a large car like this. Very fun to drive. Electrical: To add reliability, I installed a complete new wiring system with modern fuse box. Every circuit is new front to back with some extra circuits available if you want to add more equipment. I also installed a 200 amp alternator to drive the stereo system and whatever else you want to plug into it. Sound: The stereo is a Pioneer Super Tuner with CD player connected to a 900 Watt Infinity Amp. The Infinity amp is then connected to (2) Infinity 6X9 Triaxial speakers mounted on the rear deck and two 3" tweeters mounted in the kick panels in the front. It also drives a 12" Infinity woofer in the trunk. Play what you want, as loud as you want. Exterior: The paint is very good. There are a few (maybe a dozen or so) small chips that have been touched up. The paint looks excellent up close and far away. It shines like it is wet and is nice and smooth. The car was painted when I bought it and I believe the paint is lacquer that is about 15 years old, but I am not sure. I don't see any evidence that there was much rust that was repaired when the car was painted and in the 7 or 8 years I have owned the car, nothing has shown up. The fenders are nice and solid. I can't guarantee there is no bondo any where, but if there is, it was done right when painted. I keep the car in a dehumidified garage and I keep it covered to protect everything. The chrome and trim I would rate about a 7 out of 10. The bumpers are good and straight but the chrome has lost some of it's luster. And there are a few plastic pieces like the plastic chrome that goes around the marker lights that is painted with chrome paint. They look nice, but they are not chrome like original. All the chrome and plastic parts are there and in very good condition. I installed a front air valance and it really give the car a low and nice look. Interior: The interior is black bucket seats. The seats are custom black vinyl. On the back of the front seats, on the lower edge of the door panel, and on the inside of the trunk, there is a custom flame job stitched in black on the black seats which gives it a really nice custom look that is very cool and very subtle at the same time. On top of the each seat, there is also a cobra stitched in black. This really gives the interior a very professional and appropriate look. The trunk is also finished in black carpet. It looks great. Again, a very professional job. You will be proud to open the trunk and show off the work. I also installed a wood Grant steering wheel. Issues: The driver side floor pan was repaired before I got the car. It is nice and solid, and I have not had any problems with the work. The repair is not a factory floor pan and if you are like me and don't really care what it looks like from underneath, you will be happy with the work. If you want it to look like a factory job, you would have to cut out the repair work and install a new pan. Passenger side looks good and I don't think it has ever been repaired. This is the only rust that I know of on the car. I have been all over it front to back, had it completely apart, and the driver floor pans is all I can find. The console in the car was for an automatic. With the swap to a stick, the opening where the stick comes through the console does not completely cover up the hole. There is a boot there but you can see through the console to the where the boot is bolted to the floor. It is not a big deal to me, but it is a cosmetic issue that could look better. This car has factory AC. When I bought the car, the heat and air worked fine. I have not done anything to it since I bought the car. I have always planned to replace it with a modern system but did not get that done. The AC does not work now, but I think it might just need to have a wire hooked up as the compressor is not getting power. The heater seems to be fine, but I would not be surprised if the core needed flushed out. I have not used the system since I bought it 7 years ago. If you want a new vintage air system installed, let's talk as I would be willing to put the system in if you are willing to buy the parts. Please email with any questions.
