Vehicle Detail
1956 Desoto Firedome. We bought this car from the dry Mid West desert region. Car has been garaged for all it's life. There is no real rust (maybe some minor surface just in case I missed something) that I can find anywhere! The underside is nice and rust free. All floor pans and trunk are equally rust free! If your wanting a great chassis to start a restore this would be it. The car is original except for the typical maintenance items, even the seats have the original dealer installed seat covers! That means the original upholstery has not seen the light of day since 1956. We bought this car to rebuild and drive but do to economic reasons we are forced to sell her. The title is clear and I have not had the opportunity to title it here so there is 1-less seller on the title (I have a receipt from the original owner when I bought the car too). I am not trying to make money on this car. She is worth every penny the reserve is set for, I know. It's what I bought her for several years ago (not counting what I paid to transport her home.) As I said she starts, runs, and will drive but the brakes are shot and need to be redone. I have tooled her around the neighborhood using the parking brake just to exercise the car and keep her running. The radiator could stand to be rodded and her leaks welded up to. Gas tank has been cleaned and a replacement sending unit comes with the car. All the gauges in the dash work and you can see from the pictures the dash is perfect! The headliner is dry rotted and needs replacing but the rest of the interior is in great shape for an almost 60 year old car. The paint is a bit faded but still shine well and there is no rust showing on any of the body panels. The chrome is quite presentable (not show chrome) but better than any I've seen outside of re chromed. The stainless steel trim is all the on the car and undamaged. Doors open & close correctly, all the window regulators work properly. Like I said before it is in great shape for an all original car. All the taillight lenses are perfect, no crack or crazing. Glass is all good with no cracks or ships. I can't stress this enough. This is a totally original unmolested car. If her paint was a bit better and she had a new headliner she could be in a museum in my humble opinion. These are my opinions on the car but this is one of 12 antique cars I've owned in the last 30 years and probably the nicest original car I've ever had. I can take more pictures for those truly interested. Please don't waste my time with lowball offers. This is not a "beater" car and I'm not going to give her away. If you love old cars you will love this one. This is an easy fixer. manual steering, manual brakes, roll up windows, etc. No expensive electrical/mechanical parts to go wrong like high optioned cars. Cheaper in the long run to keep and maintain. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions about the car. I will do my best to get you the accurate and honest answer. We want her to go to a good home. I will be happy to make myself available for any transport company YOU HIRE to help get the car loaded. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs from my driveway to yours. No "new" bidders. If you don't have at least 10 won auctions with good feedback don't bid. I reserve the right to cancel ANY BID I don't feel is legit. The car is being sold "AS IS". The condition is as I described and shown in the pictures. If you have any questions it is up to you to ask before the close of the auction. If you wish to come by and look at the vehicle please contact us via email and we will arrange to meet you. $500.00 deposit to be paid Via Paypal within 48 hours of the auction close. Balance due within 1-week from auction close. I am flexible on pickup time, just ask (no long term storage please). On Jun-24-14 at 06:51:17 PDT, seller added the following information: The engine is the original 330 cu in Hemi engine that came with the car. I fat fingered the engine size got a "1" where a "0" goes. This was a question asked of me and I wanted to clarify. On Jun-24-14 at 18:36:25 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE! Wife found the box of car parts we "lost" during our move. Anyone buying the car using the "Buy It Now" but will also get the following ALL NEW parts: ALL 6 Wheel cylinders (yes this model had 4 on the front! The master cylinder (included above), Rubber rear brake line, Fan & generator belts, Upper and lower radiator hoses (Will also send original clamps) and bypass hose, Length of new heater hose, Thermostat and seal & a new radiator cap! I will also include a bag of door panel clips (I heard that they tend to break when you took door panels off). And last but not least 2-new headlamps (drivers side is burned out BTW) These parts will only go with the car if it sells for the buy it now price (or more would be even better!) I also took the time to really scrutinize the car last night. The paint is whats keeping this car down on the exterior, it is a bit thin in places. Like I said still presents well but don't expect a car show paint job. Imagine what your paint would look like 58 years later! Some rashing behind the rear wheel wells (no rust) and paint is cracking on the passenger side front fender. Hood also has a thin place. Other wise paint on the rest of the car is really good. Some light surface rust on inner fender wells in engine compartment. Just trying to be objective.
