Vehicle Detail
This 911 Targa is a great example of an early air-cooled 911. A well cared for daily-driver owned by a Porsche enthusiast (i currently have 4 Porsches in the garage). This car is in great shape, It looks great, handles great and sounds fantastic. It always starts on the first try, idles perfectly and accelerates smoothly and quickly with no flat spots or stumbling. Mechanically, the car is very solid, the engine has less than 8k miles since being rebuilt by Motorsports Northwest, a Porsche specialist in Boise Idaho, I have receipts for over $10k for the engine and clutch work alone. (see attached pictures). The engine is a correct 2.7 liter with CIS fuel injection. The fuel injection system is complete and work perfectly. Finding a 76 911 with an intact original drive train is getting more and more rare. Many magnesium block engines like the 2.7 developed problems with pulled head studs and overheating due to the "thermal reactors" the factory put on these cars to comply with emissions requirements. As is result many 2.7 911s had their engines replaced with other models. This 911 has the correct 2.7 engine and 915 transmission. A lot of time and money was spent to upgrade the motor and address any future problems. It wasn't cheap but it was done right and should last for years. I have receipts for the engine rebuild. This 911 has had new head studs and the case has been had timeserts installed to prevent the head stud issues. The "thermal reactor" emission devices are long gone and have been replaced by a $1,700 high performance exhaust and SSIs. The cooling fan is a newer 12 blade fan which cools better than the older fans. Finally an auxiliary oil cooler has been installed to provide extra cooling. This motor is built to last and has no cooling issues at all. Last fall it took it on a 360 mile road trip through the Utah desert and it didn't even break a sweat.Title is clean and in hand.Highlights of work performed within the last 8,000 milesComplete rebuild of engine including;new head studstime serts installed in engine casepistons serviced and new ring set installed New gaskets, seals, oil return tubesCylinder heads have been completely rebuilt including new valves, guides, and seals Performance / reliability upgradespressure fed Carrera chain tensioners installed pertronix electronic ignitionauxiliary oil cooler Turbo valve coversperformance exhaust stainless steel heat exchanger stainless mufflerNew engine sound deadening/insulationpowder coated engine tin Transmission915 5 speed manual recently serviced new clutch within last 8,000 milesShifts smoothly in all gears. No grinding, vibrations or strange soundsRecently replaced shifter bushings and couplingsRust-free early 911Rust can be a big expensive big problem on early Porsches. This 911 is rust free as far as i can see. Ive checked usual trouble spots, the fenders are good, the floors are rock solid, the frame rails look good and the area around the windshield and inside the trunk have no rust. 1976 was the first year the 911 had galvanized body panels it seems to have made a big difference on this car. This car has been protected from the elements and is very solid. Body panels, quarters, hood, fenders and rockers have no visible rust.BodyBody panels are all steel and correct. Body seals and rubber are in good shape. Looking at the undercarriage and body panels i can see no evidence of collision damage or body filler. It does have a small ding in the passenger door that could probably be fixed with painless dent removal. Targa top Targa top has been professionally recovered vinyl on top is new liner on bottom is excellent. Glass is in good condition with no breaks or cracksPaintAs you can see from the pictures, the paint has a deep gloss, it is smooth with no orange peel at all. it does have some rock chips, scratches, and other imperfections The chips have been touched up. It looks good for a daily driver but its not perfect. id rate it at about a 7/10.Carrera fiberglass spoiler InteriorSeat covers have been replacedDash is in good shape no cracksSony stereo with remote control, amplifier, pioneer subwoofer.Known IssuesThe heater motor doesn't work - haven't worried about is since i only drive it in warm weather, The driver side door panel has about a 1inch tear where someone did a poor job on installing the speaker. It could probably be covered by repositioning the speaker.Weatherstripping around Targa bar is starting to wear and should probably be replaced soon.Oil level gauge and clock don't work, tach works but bounces a bit when shifting, All others (fuel, oil temperature, oil pressure, speedometer) work properly. Carpets have been replaced and are in good shape. includes inflatable spare tire in trunk. Wheels / Tires15 inch Fuchs Nitto neogen no abnormal wear patternslots of tread left This car is a fantastic value. I have loved it and I'm sure you will too.
