Vehicle Detail
1974 Suzuki GT550 I have for sale a 1974 Suzuki GT550, triple cylinder, two stroke motorcycle. It is the Candy Turquoise color model. It is in very good condition and a survivor of 40 years. Although it shows signs of it's 40 years, it is a great foundation for any restorer/collector who might want to do a full on restoration. I have a clear signed title for the bike. The odometer only shows 3,469 miles on it. That's right, less than 4,000 miles!! This is a non-running bike. The kick starter turns the engine over just fine so the motor is NOT frozen. I decided to not try to get this one running and chance I do something wrong on a two stroke bike, of which I am not as knowledgeable as I am on the four stroke models. Everything on this bike is period correct and original except for anything noted in the description below. I usually work on the Suzuki GS model bikes. So when I got this bike, a GT model, my main goal was to do what I could to get it in good condition and pass it on to those who are more knowledgeable about them so as to get it back to its full potential. I enjoy working on these older Suzuki motorcycles, with carburetors being my specialty. What's been done: The carburetors have been completely cleaned and rebuilt. Included in the rebuild are new carb accordion boots and new intake boots. Also, the rebuild kits came with the wrong size main jets, but be assured, I cleaned and installed the correct existing ones. For your information, the right and left carbs have 97.5 main jets and the center carb has a 95 main jet. NOT the 98 jets that came with the kit. I also put on clear gas line so the next owner can be sure and see that gas is flowing to the carbs on first start up. This is something I do on all my bike projects. Please see the pictures. The oil lines have been flushed and cleaned out. The oil pump was pulled and cleaned and re-installed. The seat has no rips or tears and has minimal surface rust on the seat pan. Please see the pictures. The wire rim wheels are in great condition and very clean. The gas tank has no dents, but there are stains and scratches from normal usage. There is some wear on the tank where the seat touches it. Please look at the pictures. The side covers are complete, along with some scuffs and scratches that are to be expected with normal riding. The exhaust shows normal wear from riding but no major dents and I think is great original condition. The couplers between the exhaust pipes are showing more loss of chrome than the rest of the exhausts but I think it s in great original condition. Please see the pictures. The lenses on the instruments have a good amount of scratches as can be seen in the pictures. They are still easily readable but if you decide to do a full restoration, you'll have to change in some new ones. What’s not been done: With this bike being a prime candidate for a full on restoration, I've decided to leave the following items untouched: I've not replaced the front brake lines, these are original. However, some people wish to upgrade to new, braided steel brake lines and others like to keep classic bikes original and stock and prefer to put on new rubber brake lines. I leave this up to the new owner to do as they wish. The tires also look to be original and need to be replaced. Some people wish to upgrade to newer, modern tires while others want the original look and prefer to put on new tires that are now being offered with the retro tire tread designs. I leave this to be decided by the new owner and what direction they wish to take. The front forks have not been worked on though they feel strong. Again, some people may want to upgrade to some stronger front springs so I left these alone too. Your choice if you want to upgrade to progressive springs or stay with stock springs. There are a few things that I have not addressed. These being the following: One of the seat hinge pins is missing. I used a bolt and nut to replace it but these can be found brand new or used if you want to keep an original look to the bike. The kick starter is missing the rubber pad. These can easily be found on eBay. The pin that connects the rear brake lever to the rear brake is missing. These can be found all day on ebay for about $3 to $4. I may have one by the time the bike sells. The right rear passenger foot peg has a piece missing that would not allow me to put it back on. Replacement foot pegs are easy to find on eBay. I'll leave that to the next owner as some people leave them off all together. The electrical wiring has not been fully tested. If you look in the pictures, you'll see an oddity that I circled in red. It appears to be an added connection to the power wire. I believe the previous owner had an alternate theft proof switch hooked up at one time. With electrical wiring NOT being one of my strong suits, I felt it would be a mistake to hook up a battery and "see what happens" and take a chance at possibly doing some damage. I believe just removing the added positive wire and the 2 fuses should be the solution. I'll leave that up to the next owner. All the rest of the wiring looks correct and with the low miles on this bike, I feel confident it should be fine. As stated above, I was more interested in getting this bike in better condition than I found it and not doing a complete restoration. I’m not as versed in 2 stroke bikes as I am in the four stroke GS models. So I'll pass this one on to those who have more knowledge. This bike is now 40 years old and should be bought with this in mind. It is being sold as-is. There are no guarantees or warranties, implied or written. What you see is what you get. This bike has not been fully restored. Please be sure if you bid on this bike that you fully understand the ownership of a bike like this. It takes care and regular upkeep. This is NOT a "Buy and Ride" bike. The tires will need replacing and the front brake lines replaced, as well as a few final fixes that I have mentioned to get her in top shape. For the collector/restorer or two stroke fan, this is a great foundation bike do your own restoration or custom bike to your own personal standards. You can put the final touches to it however you want. I have done a lot of the work for you as can be read in this write up and seen in the pictures. Please feel free to ask any and all questions. Good luck bidding! I believe I have described this bike as completely and thoroughly as possible. Please feel free to ask any questions. Please look at the pictures. I do not ship motorcycles. This will have to be a local pick up only. But I will work with any shipping companies you may use. I do not crate up bikes either. These things will have to be worked out between us. There is a small possibility I may deliver this to you if it’s not too far away and we can reach some kind of agreement in regards to the costs involved in agreeing to something like this.
