In 2011 this Beetle came out of a barn in Prescott AZ where it had been stored since 1981. It now has less than 400 miles on a body-off restoration that preserved the original German parts wherever reasonable and used Wolfsburg West parts everywhere else. It was professionally painted in the original Gulf Blue and has the year-appropriate 40 hp motor rebuilt by "VW Performance" in Phoenix, AZ, now at 1380cc but retaining the stock appearance. It has been converted to 12v and fresh air heat. The fully restored interior includes the year-correct fabric headliner (last year), vinyl seats and rubber mats. New wiring harness, brake system, wheel bearings, suspension components, rubber seals, and more. The car is a solid #2, the perfect balance of outstanding appearance and drivability. No trailer queen, but an attention grabber anywhere. Hagerty's value for this car, #2 condition, is $14,200 with value climbing steadily. The only thing not operable is the wipers. New armature and new switch, so there's an electrical gremlin somewhere. But I live in the desert and wouldn't drive it in the rain anyway, so haven't spent the time to figure it out.
