The Allante was introduced by Cadillac in 1987 as a premium luxury 2-seat convertible to compete with the likes of Mercedes’ SL-class and Jaguar’s XJ-S. About 21,000 were built between 1987 and 1993, with the ’93 models like ours being the pinnacle of development and the most desired model. For 1993-only the Allante was upgraded to the 4.6L Northstar engine with 295 HP. Also introduced for ’93 was Cadillac’s Road Sensing Suspension, an active damper management system, and improved disc brakes. Also standard in ’93 was Delco’s “Premium Symphony Sound System”. Our car is one of 4,670 Allantes made in 1993 and it was purchased with two important options. They made only 200 removable hardtops, which were aluminum, weighing only 60 pounds. The hardtop was a $5,000 option, and this car has one. Also optional was the LCD Digital Instrument Cluster featured on this car.The Allante was a unique collaboration between Cadillac and Italy’s Pininfarina, designer and builder of the bodies for Ferrari and many other famous premium brands. The completed bodies were shipped 4,600 miles from Italy to Detroit in specially equipped Boeing 747’s where they were mated with the domestically-manufactured chassis and engine assemblies. Allantes are regulary seen at such prestigious events as Concorso Italiano in Monterey’s famous car week, where they are accepted as Italian cars.This car has been owned with great pride by a very meticulous owner since 1996. It is a local car delivered new by Sarant Cadillac in Farmingdale, NY and has covered just 43k miles. The new owner will get a treasure trove of Allante collectible items with this car including books, video cassettes, audio cassettes, and the original Cadillac “Gold Key” that was delivered with the car. Of course, the sale also includes the original owner’s manual and a thick file of Sarant Cadillac service receipts up to the present date.
