Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1974 BMW R90/6 motorcycle... NO RESERVE!!!!! I purchased this bike with hopes of my son talking interest in BMW motorcycles, but like most kids his age, he fails to see the classic beauty of this bike. (and all his friends have Honda's) If your reading this, I'm sure you have an appreciation for this bike that sadly my son is lacking. I bought the bike from an avid vintage motorcycle collector and mechanic. His garage spoke for itself, and I confidently purchased the bike knowing I was buying a solid example of an R-series BMW. Sure this bike looks clean on the outside, but the more you look, the more you see... from the era-correct Vetter fairing (I assume was installed by a dealership near the original sale of this bike) to the COMPLETE factory BMW toolkit under the seat (wrapped in the ORIGINAL BMW shop towel) to the inspection stickers from the BMW factory under the seat, and in the detachable hard bags you can see this is an un-molested example. THE ONLY NON-ORIGINAL PARTS ON THIS BIKE ARE THE FAIRING AND THE EXHAUST. But... I also have the factory original exhaust... The bike starts on the first push of the electric starter button every time, without hesitation. The dual Bing carbs work in harmony with one another, and the motor runs cool, quiet, and has plenty of power with every twist of the throttle. The clutch operates smooth and easy as it should, and the bike does not "walk" or creep ahead when first gear is selected. The brakes work flawlessly. The fork seals do not leak, and the rear shock does not squeak. THE ONLY ITEMS ON THIS MOTORCYCLE THAT ARE NOT WORKING ARE THE KICK STARTER AND THE ODOMETER. From talking with the man I purchased the bike from (and extensive research) I have learned the kick starter is a common problem. There is a small pin that snaps connecting the kicker petal to the crank assembly. These are often upgraded to ensure that they do not break again. This one has not been fixed and personally I prefer it that way. I was planning on repairing this issue, but knowing NOBODY has been in there and messed with things is peace of mind to me. From what I have learned from multiple experienced vintage BMW mechanics it is not an extremely hard, or expensive repair... and the bike functions perfectly fine as-is with the electric starter. The odometer read one number when I purchased the bike, and now clicks the HIGHEST value over when riding. I do not know if it is the original VDO odometer, it appears to have been serviced, and I have found that these older VDO gauges are known to act faulty with BMW motorcycles and cars. I will let the photos do the rest of the talking for this motorcycle... but if you are interested, or want to see some different pictures I have not listed, DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME. I will be glad to send you any photos or info I can. I RECENTLY DID A COMPRESSION TEST ON THIS BIKE AND BOTH CYLINDERS TESTED 140psi... According to experts 100psi is low and 130-150psi is perfect...
