Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in 12/09/07 and I drove it on a temp tag and then put it away in my garage. It has remained there ever since. I recently pulled it out and had it towed to a Jaguar mechanic friend of mine. He owed me about 500 for a previous purchase and so he got the car running and freed up the brakes and put new plugs in it and got it working again after sitting so long. All major systems came back with authority and work perfectly. This includes the heat blower motor, the wipers, the horn, the computer, the power windows, the power convertible top, the brakes, etc. However there is still a glitch that needs sorted out. The car starts up perfectly and runs nice for about 5 minutes BUT then the idle goes up and then down and up and then down. Mind you it remains smooth and I drove the car 10 miles this way without problems. My mechanic friend could not spend anymore time on the car and he thinks it may just be a sensor or an adjustment of some kind. What is interesting is this. I had the car outside in front of my house the last 3 days since I was going to take photos. Well it rained heavily for the last 2 days and nights. Today it stopped and I took the pics and I also started the car up. I ran it for at least 20 minutes and drove it up and down my driveway. The idle NEVER went up and down but remained nice and constant. Something about the moisture in the air has cured the problem? Most likely temporarily but this is important as it goes to show that the problem is not a very serious one. So today the car ran perfectly fine. The brakes work fine but the antilock idiot light has come one. No other idiot lights are on. The power windows work with authority and the car is in basically good working order. Minor things like the power mirrors may not work right but the important things are doing just fine. I bought a new battery for it since the old one was dead as a doornail. Mind you the new spark plug job is not cheap or easy and this has been done and the new battery was 100 dollars. I do not know if I have the radio code? It may be in the paperwork? Anyway the car has the original radio in it. The convertible top has 2 tears in it that can be repaired to use it but I recommend a new top in the near future. The body is very nice with no rust and no dents. There may be a very minor parking ding or 2 but I didn't see anything walking quickly around the car. The car has been repainted and the hood had a small dent on it from the inside outward that must have been repaired and repainted. I can see the small dent on the inside of the hood since all the insulation stuff has been removed. The paint is in nice shape with a few imperfections here and there but the car looks very nice and very shiny red. The interior is in good shape and original. The wood on the door panels and dash is much better tan you normally see on these cars. Only in the center console does the wood need any attention. Even the cigarette lighter works. I am selling this car only because I have had serious medical problems and I need the money to pay bills as I have been unable to do my previous work which was doing antique shows with heavy furniture, grandfather clocks and classic outboard motors. I have had 2 heart attacks. One was fixed with a quadruple bypass and the second one which I had this past labor day when I was doing and outdoor antique show was fixed with a stent. That one stent and 3.5 day hospital stay cost 71000 dollars! Follow up care has also been very expensive. I was told in no uncertain terms that I could not do my previous job anymore. I need to find a more sedentary job but this takes time and many firms will not hire me with my medical history. This car has to go to pay bills in the meantime. I sold a car on here about 2 months ago also. This is a really nice car. I originally kept it for my retirement so you know I thought highly of it. My illness has changed my life unfortunately. I paid over 6000 for this car 5 years ago. Its condition has not changed at all other than the engine idle issue which I am sure is not a serious problem. I will let it go for much less than this figure. I have a reserve price on the car but it is between 3000 and 4000 which is certainly very cheap for this nice of an XJS V12 RED convertible. Red with tan interior is THEE BEST and most desirable color combination for any sporty convertible.. I am hoping that it does much better than this. It really should, but as I said it is reserve priced to sell. Good luck to all and please remember that I need this money to pay bills so get in the Christmas spirit and perhaps bid a bit more than you normally would to help out your fellow man who has been plagued by heart trouble and has had a very bad year in 2013. Mom and oldest brother both died in 2013. Thanks :-) By the way the car can remain at my place as long as you need to arrange pickup. It can stay here for weeks or even months if necessary at no charge as long as it is paid for. Also my phone is 330-289-8203 in case you have any questions. Thanks. :-) And Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy New Year! On Dec-23-13 at 10:16:35 PST, seller added the following information: This is directed to all of you rust belt folks like myself. lol This car has always been in the south. Read the attached report on the car's history in the listing. This report is put there by E-bay and NOT by me. Much of its life was in Florida and there was a short period in Virginia before I purchased it and it came to Ohio. In Ohio the car was a garage queen and never saw snow or salt. SO, I have incurred the expense of bringing this rust free southern car to the rust belt and now you rust belt car buffs have a great opportunity to buy it without having to have it shipped a long distance which today costs a lot of money. Also it is stated that the car has NEVER been in an accident AND that there are no odometer discrepancies. This is all extremely important when buying a car like this. The fact that the car has been repainted shows that the previous owners took good care of it. In the south and particularly in Florida where the sun is strong, original paint fades and clear coat peels. However Florida is humid enough so that the rubber stays good, unlike Arizona and the south west states where the rubber dries out and cracks from lack of moisture.. The rubber on this car is not dried out. When I bought these cars 5, 6 and 7 years ago, I looked all around Ohio and Michigan and Indiana and Pennsylvania. I could not find any that were rust free. This is why I bought my cars from the south and this is why you rust belt buyers have a rare opportunity here to get a southern rust free car right in your own backyard. I wish I could have found cars like this locally when I was buying! On Dec-29-13 at 02:05:39 PST, seller added the following information: As of 4am Sunday morning I noticed that my reserve of 3500 has been met. This was a very low reserve and I made it low so the car would definitely sell as I need the money now for bills. There are also as of now 69 watchers and I have had several telephone calls from very interested bidders. Three of the callers said that they planned to bid in the low 4 thousand range. Maybe they were telling the truth and maybe they were blowing smoke? You never can tell. However the feeling I get from the callers and THE 69 watchers as of right now is that if you want to win the car it is likely that you will have to bid in the 4 to 5 thousand range? I could be wrong but I don't think so. Also I have noticed over the years that when it gets VERY close to the new year, cars like this usually sell for more than their normal price. Okay so you probably think I am doing a sales job on you? lol Perhaps a little bit. :-) BUT what I told you regarding what the callers SAID and the 69 watchers is all true. Also just a reminder, there is a 500 pay pal deposit in 48 hours and FULL payment is due in 3 days. If it takes you 4 I won't be too upset. BUT PLEASE, if you cannot pay for the car within the time frame, DO NOT BID ON IT!!!! If you are an under bidder, hold off buying something else for about 4 days just in case GOD FORBID I get a bad bidder. DO NOT respond to any second chance offer until you know for certain it has come from me. There are 2 ways to verify this. Save a link to this listing and if you get a second chance offer, pull up the original listing and ask a question from this. This will reach me in my E-Bay messages and I will tell you if I made the offer or not. Also you can call me on the phone to verify. The number is 330-289-8203. I really hope that all the bidders will be honorable. It is bad KARMA to play games with someone who has serious medical problems. Another reminder is that you are not under the gun to pick it up. If you live far away and need to leave it here for awhile or even until Spring, that is fine as long as it is paid for. I will simply put it back in the garage until you are ready to pick it up. You have to arrange pickup if you live far away. If you are close and want to drive it home immediately, that is fine too. If you live close and want to leave it here for awhile, that is okay too. I will miss this car. Good luck to you all and hopefully the guy who appreciates the car the most will win. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!!! :-) AL
