Vehicle Detail

acaceca Store Further cleanout of surplus vintage cars and parts: Found another one in my barn. This is a no reserve auction and the car will be sold regardless of price, on or off auction. This particular auction is for an authentic original 1976 Triumph TR6 roadster as shown. Some photos show it as it was recently removed from the barn covered with 25 years of dirt. We just cleaned it up and took the rest of the photos. There are 55 photos which were taken in a misty rain and high humidity, so the chassis photos you are looking at look oddly shiny - It is because they are wet mainly from the high humidity and rain. The shiny black areas are actually the original rustproofing that is wet. This is a project car - It is an unrestored original survivor. Originally an overdrive and air conditioned car. Original engine. One old correct Java green repaint over the original factory Java green paint. Black Ambla vinyl interior. Comes with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate certifying it as a matching numbers original car. The serial number is CF/54018-U0. Built March 2, 1976, sent to British Leyland Motors in Jacksonville Florida on 6 April, 1976. The engine number is correct original CF44105UE. Original equipment included 4 speed overdrive transmission, disc wheels, heater, laminated windscreen, inertia reel seat belts, black tonneau cover and 185-15 Michelin X red band tubed tyres. (tonneau is missing) The odometer reads about 66822 miles. I have no reason to believe it is incorrect but cannot guarantee it's accuracy. The 1988 Georgia title shows a reading of 65280. There are over 50 photos. As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1976 Triumph TR6 at $10000 low and $35000 high. Average of $16656. Getting tired of seeing nothing but "restored" or junk, modified, restorod, unoriginal or rusty cars for sale? It is hard for the do it yourselfer to find an original car worthy and inexpensive enough to restore and have something that is a solid original when the job is finished. A lot of them have been given a one week "restoration" hiding many sins and covering up the interesting historic indicators of time. Most solid original survivors have disappeared. A lot of the leftovers are either "restored" cars or rusty beaters. I have never bought a "restored" car, having spent almost 40 years collecting the best original condition cars that I could find and putting them in storage preserving them for enjoyment by some future owner. Following is a detailed description: OVERALL CONDITION: This is a good solid easy project car. It is almost 40 years old. To get it into new condition, figure on doing everything. ENGINE: The car was transported to my home in 1986 and put into storage - The engine was then prepped for long term storage and is not frozen. Rotates and turns over easily by hand. The running condition is not known anymore but you might as well assume it will need work or rebuilding - I always do. It has never been started while in my possession. TRANSMISSION: Transmission was originally an overdrive unit. It was replaced before I purchased the car with a standard correct Triumph TR6 4 speed non overdrive - That is what is in it now. It goes through the gears fine but the exact condition is not known because I have never tried to start or drive the car while in my possession. If you desire an overdrive transmission I have a spare complete one that can be purchased for an extra $1000. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: No rust - battery box is solid with one very small isolated hole the size of a dime. The rest is just minor surface rust. Complete and all original. No accident damage anywhere. Straight as an arrow and original with original paint. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: No rust, straight, solid and no accident damage. Very good overall condition. Has original spare wheel and redline Michelin X tire. The black goop you see in the photos in the leading area of the bottom of the wheel well is rustproofing overrun from when the car was rustproofed. There is an original wheel lug wrench and jack handle in the trunk. Original paint. EXTERIOR SHEET METAL BODY PANELS: The entire body was rustproofed when it was new at some professional rustproofing shop. It has all the rustproofing access holes and rubber plugs throughout. All fenders, doors, rocker panels and hood are straight - No rust, no accidents, no dents or dings with the exception of a small ding in the hood and a couple of very small door dings. Look at all of the lines and gaps - everything lines up and fits perfectly - doors close like new. Very nice straight lines and even gaps. Inner and outer rocker panels are excellent, among the best I have seen - no rust. The trunk lid has some rust holes on the rear section as shown. There are two isolated small rust areas on top of the left and right rear fender/trunk/top junction as shown. (The seams in that area have not been filled with bondo - they are original this is usually a problem area). Some small insignificant scrapes/scratches were touched up. Entire exterior was repainted the original color many years ago due to fading only. Paint overall would be useable for a driver - has peeling areas, scratches, etc but would actually polish up to look pretty decent for a driver. EXTERIOR BODY PARTS: Convertible top frame is good. Convertible top is good but rear window/s are spotted with chicken pox - just old. The windshield is uncracked but has some internal delamination areas. Chrome is all old original but decent and serviceable. Rear bumper is good, straight and undamaged original - chrome is old original but decent and serviceable. Front bumper is also good - small wrinkle on the left side piece hardly noticeable - chrome is old original but decent and serviceable. The front turn signals in the bumper were replaced with aftermarket turn signals. Grille assembly and grille badge are very nice. Front spoiler is very good. Wheels are all good. Trim rings are fair. CHASSIS: Frame and complete chassis under the car are in excellent condition with no rust - only minor surface dusting in some isolated areas. Straight as an arrow, everything is original and complete, no damage. All suspension, brakes and everything under the car are original and complete - no hidden damage. Nothing has been covered up or painted, etc to hide anything - nothing needs to be hidden on this car. Any dark areas shown in the photos would be the original rustproofing or wet spots - the underside photos were taken in the rain. INTERIOR: The floors are very solid unrusted originals with the exception of a couple very minor isolated holes as shown in one rear corner. A few scale spots here and there as shown. Original good passenger seat and tracks are there. Good drivers seat tracks are there but the drivers seat is missing - we removed the seats years ago when we were going to reinstall an overdrive transmission - that never happened and I sold the seat on ebay, thinking it was a spare. Carpeting is in decent condition. (carpeting is black but my cheap camera insists on making black look blue or purple) No front carpeting. Sunvisors are there but need replacing. Retractable seat belts are there but have been chewed on in a few spots near the floor anchor by critters. Door panels and most all of the soft panel/wheelhousing/ rear bulkhead original vinyl areas are in good condition and all serviceable. DASH AREA: The wood dash is original and the varnish is all flaking off. The top and right side crash pads have cracks in the vinyl - The top pad is useable as the crack is very small and almost unnoticeable. I did not notice it until I took the photos. The left side and middle pads are OK. Original gauges are all there and look good. Steering wheel is in excellent condition. There is a new overdrive switch on the steering column. It was replaced in anticipation of reinstalling an overdrive transmission. AIR CONDITIONING: Air conditioning was installed in the car new at the dealer when the car was imported - as was every TR6 that has air conditioning - none were actually installed at the "factory". For whatever reason the previous owner decided that they didn't want the air conditioning so they removed it years ago - or most of it. I have the parts shown and they all go with the car - I do not know if every little thing is there - what you see is all I have that came with the car. The original crankshaft dual groove pulley is still intact on the crankshaft. The compressor, evaporator, condenser and other dash pieces are there as shown. The condenser actually is still attached with it's fittings and cut rubber hoses to the front of the radiator and the air condensers electric cooling fan is also intact, mounted correctly in front of the condenser and radiator. So that assembly at least has not been removed or modified. The evaporator dash assembly with the electric motor is very good and the motor works perfectly with no noise. There is also a small bag marked A/C that has some nuts and bolts. TIRES: All 5 original red line Michelin X tires still hold air but of course are in a semi petrified state and need replacing. EXHAUST: The exhaust system looks pretty good - looks quite solid and useable. Actually looks like it was installed new years ago and never used - the manufacturers sticker can still be seen on the muffler. SUSPENSION AND BRAKES: Suspension and braking mechanisms appear to be completely intact - can see nothing missing. Of course all new hydraulics would be the order of the day. LUGGAGE RACK: Original stainless steel luggage rack is in quite nice condition. PAPERWORK: I have a Georgia title from the person I purchased the car from and it will be given to the new owner, along with a bill of sale. The British Heritage Industry Heritage Trust Certificate and an excellent owners manual go with the car. MISCELLANEOUS: Most all of the original items that I can see are still intact on the car - sun visors, Lucas washer bottle and motor, etc. are there. Car rolls and steers very easily so no problems with shuttling around. Side window glass is excellent. Both windows also roll up and down easily. INSPECTION OF CAR: As always, it is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible. SHIPPING: I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. I can assist with loading. The car is in a secure covered place at my home. PAYMENT: A $500. deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via priority mail with a bank cashiers check, cash or wire transfer. Payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Full payment is due BEFORE the car is collected. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming and inspecting the car to see if you like it - it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction. In my experience most of the cars sold on ebay are a wholesale bargain. Mine certainly have been. No Paypal. REVIEW: This is a very solid TR6 that is worthy of resurrecting and driving it as is - it is also worth the time, effort and money to get it in a top restored condition because of the good solid foundation, desirable year model, color combination and original options........ On Dec-12-13 at 10:17:10 PST, seller added the following information:I FOUND THE 2 FRONT CARPET PIECES - THEY ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND GO WITH THE CAR.
