Vehicle Detail
Austin Healey Mk I 'Bug Eye' Sprite, 1960 Beautifully rebuilt and restored Excellent body and floors (original), rust free, very nice deep maroon paint, mostly new chrome and trim, all new interior including completely rebuilt seats in tan leather, a sensational car. Engine was just rebuilt, pistons, bearings, cam, lifters, clutch, etc. Runs perfectly, excellent oil pressure, no smoke, smooth and with ample performance. Transmission has all of the qualities of an excellent unit: strong synchromesh action, quiet, doesn’t leak or pop out of gear. Original floors are fabulous….no signs of patching, rust, damage, or repair. And NO undercoating. Body too is excellent with beautiful maroon (deeper than shown in the photos) paint. All of the interior is new, leather seats, new carpets and side panels, dash done as original with original gauges and switches (and all work) I went over the car with a small kitchen magnet and it stuck on the sides, rockers, at the leading edge of the nose (often battered and repaired). So what is under the paint is really solid. As one of the photos shows, this car was stripped to the bare metal before it was repainted. LOTS of important work done…new metal and flex brake lines, brakes rebuilt, new master cylinder, new clutch hydraulics, new cloth covered wiring harness, mostly new mechanicals, redone radiator, new shocks, new heater core, tires relatively new, chrome is excellent throughout, what’s left? Top is in very good condition as are the side curtains and tonneau. Even has its original jack and lug wrench. Although parts are generally very inexpensive and widely available, one part has not been available for many years…the original heater fan control….this car has it and it works!!!!!! Granted, a minor item but one that is interesting. I am not fond of having the front bumper on a Bug Eye…it is off but comes with the car (bumper, overriders, and all brackets). I don’t doubt there are better Bug Eyes on the planet but I can’t imagine they are that much better. This car is not a 99 point Pebble Beach concours entry but I doubt that Bug Eyes are seen there. For most shows, this car is a worthy entrant and NO Bug Eye runs appreciably better than this car. Ready for occasional or daily use. Car is located in Stratford, Connecticut. I can assist the winning bidder with shipping anywhere in the world. If you have questions, the best way to get in contact is to CALL during the day at 203-377-6746. Good luck, and thanks for looking.
