1968 Volkswagen-Kellison Sand Piper Pickup Dune Buggy Olds 215 V8! Reasonable Rides and Rods presents this really cool Kellison Sand Piper Pickup powered by a 215 Oldsmobile all-aluminum V8. This little buggy draws attention wherever you go! Street legal and ready to cruise. Body and Paint The body for this buggy is a Kellison Sand Piper Pickup and is in great condition. The buggy has been painted hot rod satin black with a skull theme. The paint is driver quality, but very presentable. To make room for the V8, the bed floor was removed. A custom diamond plate engine cover was fabricated and installed, and an aluminum tail panel was made to complete the rear of the buggy. The pan is from a 1968 Volkwagen Bug and is in great condition. Engine/Drivetrain The aluminum Olds 215 V8 has been rebuilt with a mild cam upgrade and performs flawlessly. This engine only weighs 260 lbs, so the buggy is fairly well balanced. The engine has an aluminum intake, 500 cfm Edelbrock carb, and custom headers. The cooling system is really custom with dual Honda Civic radiators and twin cooling fans. Even on a 100 degree Texas day, this buggy runs around 180 degrees in town. The transaxle is VW and mated to the engine with a Kennedy adapter and performance clutch. All of the shift linkage has been rebuilt and performs correctly. Interior This buggy is equipped with fiberglass buckets that are in good shape. Black carpet and heavy duty mats are in the floor. A mini tach and set of mini gauges have been added to monitor the engine. The speedo is currently not working. A nice little stereo has been installed to provide some tunes while cruising. Brakes, Suspension, Tires and wheels This buggy has new drum brakes around and a new master cylinder. It stops well and track right when braking. The front suspension has had drop spindles installed and the rear suspension has air shocks to adjust the height. It tracks down the road great, and it can be driven anywhere. The wheels are new Billet Specialties custom wheels with new BF Goodrich TA Radials. This combination was over $2300 alone. Overall This is one fun little buggy that always draws a crowd. Obviously, it has quite a bit of power and is a blast to drive. Reasonable Rides and Rods is located in Lewisville, Texas just minutes from DFW Airport in Dallas. This vehicle is being sold as-is. A non-refundable $500.00 deposit is due within 48 hours of end of auction. The remainder is due within 5 days of Auction end. If no contact is made within 24 hours we reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next high bidder, or sell it otherwise. All Sales are subject to a flat Documentary Fee of $50, a $40.75 State Inspection Fee, and a Texas Vehicle Inventory Tax based on .001813 of the purchase price. Our Documentary Fee is collected by Reasonable Rides and Rods and is not mandated by the state of Texas. Residents of Texas will be required to pay sales tax of 6.25% and registration/inspection fees, but out-of-state buyers may register and pay applicable taxes in their home state.
