1981 Volkswagen VW Rabbit Pick up truck - Caddy - Diesel engine - 4 speed PLEASE READ AD - COMPLETELY - THIS IS A NON-RUNNING PROJECT TRUCK THAT NEEDS BODY WORK AND REASSEMBLY! 1981 Vw Rabbit Pick up Truck - or known as a " Caddy " 1.6 diesel engine ( I have not tried to start it , it turns freely ) 4 speed manual transmission Odometer reads 76654 ( which I believe to be original miles ) Truck is equipped with AC Beautiful Tan interior - Seats , door panels , dash is all in very good condition, even the carpet - the headliner is actually still in place as well. I can not find any RUST - when I say rust I mean holes from rot - anywhere on the truck - there is some discoloration from the accident in the back of the truck ( I will get to that ) but the rockers , back side of the strut towers are all very clean and from what I can see not rusty - that is why I am selling this truck instead of parting it out. BODY: Urban legend is that this truck was in a car accident early in its life. Not sure when. It was hit in the back bumper or backed into something - pretty decent amount of damage. Rear bumper , tail gate, bed floor and driver side quarter panel above and behind the rear wheel is damaged ( see pictures ). Tailgate will NOT open. It is missing tail lights and the tail light covers / surrounds are broken. Along with the rear bumper and that rear apron that it mounts to is damaged. That is the back of the truck - now to the front of the truck. Not sure if it was the same accident or what - a brand new OEM front core support was installed at some point by someone - still has OEM VW Sticker on it - The fenders were removed - there are three fenders included - and a red hood. I am kind of glad the fender are removed because you can see there are NO HOLES of rot / rust in the strut towers. They are VERY VERY solid like NEW like they should be but typically are not... Two fenders look to be from this truck and one fender is sanded and some other body work done to it with antenna hole filled. The rockers are awesome - pinch welds look very good - roof and cab of truck are in very good shape - the windshield is BROKEN - really really bad. Engine: I do not know nothing about the engine - it turns freely - the clutch engages and holds car in gear. With it being a diesel - it could fire right up after some preventative measures and cleaning of fluids. The alternator looks to be missing , not sure if I saw in the back of the truck - also the starter is missing from the transmission. Axles are still attached to the transmission and all other suspension components are present. This truck was equipped with AC ( air conditioning ) the AC line that goes from the compressor to the condenser is CUT - all the rest of the lines look like they are present. Interior: Is pretty much AWESOME. Look at the pictures - the dash looks to be crack free - has factory radio , ashtray clip that hold ashtray tight to the dash fell off but is in the glove box. Looks like the fan speed knob is missing ( just the end black part you put your finger on ) The carpet , seats and door panels are very clean ( these pics are the way I found it , I did not even clean it , only washed the OUTSIDE of the truck before I took pictures ) - the adjusters on the seats are broken to MOVE them forward on both seats ( to lay the back forward ) I have not tried to actually slide the seats forward to reach pedals. Windows both go up and down, passenger side window crank is broken. Not sure If there are any speakers or if the stereo even works. The driver side door lock , to lock the door - is broken it just pulls all the way up. Over-All: It is a Project. The rear damage is more than I can handle trying to fix. I was just going to part this truck out and if no one bids - then I guess I will just part it out. You don't see these trucks with solid strut towers and lacking general rot / rust - even the rear corners of the bed behind the wheels is SOLID - no rust / holes. It just pretty damaged. To be clear: This truck does not run - will need to be towed. It does not start and I will not allow it to attempt to be started until after it is paid for in full and is YOUR truck. I plan to do a 7 day auction and if I have time this week - I might try to get it to fire up to see what happens - but I doubt I have time before auction ends. If I do I will EDIT the ad with an additional description. The truck is missing headlights , tail lights , front grill , marker / corner lights. There is no radiator or ac condenser , no starter or alternator and no battery, windshield is damaged. This is a project that needs put back together - sold as is where is - outside Lincoln Nebraska - Shipping is an option - at your expense and arrangements.
