Vehicle Detail

A rare chance to buy a nice TDI from a long time owner who cared for it, maintainted it, and pretty much kept it original. Completely untouched, just an hour spent on some cleaning and small things, and this could look way nicer, but I wanted to do the kind of "here is exactly what it is, plucked right from daily use" type of auction that I'd want to bid on. Sorry the description is so long, but if you're interested in the car, I think the details are worth knowing, especially if you're planning on coming from a distance. This was my sister's car, she bought it in 2005 with about 85,000 on it, it now has 243,435 miles and and she drove it up until about a week ago when my Dad bought her a new car out of the blue. Still has her plates and insurance on it, though they are coming off. She just had the timing belt and water pump done again less than 3 months ago and a month or two before that had put on 4 new tires too. If you like TDI's, this is a nice running car, all of us siblings are (very) much into VW's (see the last photo, that was unintentional this past summer when we all got together, so we just parked in a row.) and this car was a favorite. Though I have a DSLR, I took these photos with my iPhone. The video too. I know from my own experience of buying a car for myself, especially from a long distance, that I'd rather see the everyday car and an accurate description rather than it detailed and parked still dripping soapy water in front of some fancy house down the road. Here's all that I can see, think of, or know about- and the photos are to give you as accurate a picture as I would want. There are two spots of rust, and as far as I can see, only these two spots- I'm not sure why, unless it was a factory issue with the metal in those two specific spots before it was painted; one on the passenger front fender wheel well, a serious spot of rust but it's contained to that one spot. And another spot of rust (bubbling under the paint, not through yet) to the left of the rear window. Other than that, it's original paint that still looks deep red and nice with no dents or scrapes for the most part. The clear coat is peeling from the mirrors though. The mark below the passenger rear door is a tar substance I think, I forgot to check it out when taking the photos. The leather is really nice, especially the driver's seat since it was my little sister (who is a grown adult) driving it nearly all that time. Girls seem to be lighter and easier on the driver's seat, as you can see from the photos. There is a spot in the back seat where there is a small hole near the stitching, I took a close up photo of that but it wouldn't upload, but you can see I put the key next to it in the full backseat photo. Not really noticeable, but it's the only real blemish in the interior. Otherwise the leather looks fantastic, it has not been dyed or cleaned for the photos. No wax or Armorall or even a wipe-down. One hinge on the glovebox is broken, it's a common issue and was that way since she got the car. The armrest hinge broke (another common issue on these) and a while back I installed the reinforced aftermarket hinge to replace the factory one, and it's there and great. Perfectly aligned and very strong. The ashtray was never used by her, so it always had coins down there, that's why it's dirty in the lower console. The sliding lid to the ashtray is broken, probably from having so many coins in there, so it could be cleaned up and the lid replaced, down in the front of the shifter- in the lower center column. As you can see, I didn't clean ANYTHING on this, so you can see it exactly as it is. The floor mats are orignal, and are worn, as well as the one radio button, which I think has a replacement in the glovebox, but I didn't investigate that. The transmission is an automatic, and when you put it in drive there's a slight delay. It's been like this for a long while, she had it looked at and they couldn't get any codes or tell her what to do or something they could fix, so this is how it's been for a year or two... I realize this could sound like a huge thing to someone unfamiliar with the car, and while I would personally drive this anywhere, figure this into the total picture when you're deciding what to bid. It's sold completely as is, but like I said, I'd drive it anywhere, and she drove it from PA to CT and PA to OH without a second thought. A lot. Right up until she got the new car a few days ago. (Don't forget, she put new tires on the car, and later a timing belt and waterpump- all while having this issue, to give you an idea of how serious it was considered to be...) The bumper needs a clip or something to fasten it up on the passenger side, as is obvious from the photos. It was fixed once, but I don't know if it needs a screw, a clip, or what. Also, she recently had a second key made up at the dealer, (again, expensive) and had them all snynced by the dealership. Everything locks and unlocks as it should. The back window on the driver's side goes up and down fine, but sometimes the swtich doesn't activate. Otherwise all the power options work great, locks, windows, cruise, etc... The water pump was replaced with the timing belt as preventive maintenance, and that was done a few months ago, probably 2 or 3. But when they did the work they lost the two screws to hold the engine plastic cover in place; as you can see I discovered this while taking the video, and also the plastic tube of the dipstick is broken, I meant to get one and forgot about it a while ago, another common issue. Going back farther, I can remember a few years ago the timing belt skipped, and she replaced the head with a remanufactured one (VW Dealership sold the head and also installed it) $$$$. But it was done right. The car starts and purrs, I took a (haphazard) cold start video of which I will add the link below. Other than that, it's a really solid cute little car, rare automatic with black leather, power sunroof, alloy wheels, sporty power & tilt sunroof, and most all other options... driven by an adult and thought of like family (really). As of a week ago this was her car "forever" and now with her new car (which she came out here to pick up) she dropped this off for me to sell since I could better answer questions and am more familiar with Ebay. I was going to put a $4500 reserve / Buy It Now on it, but rather than list it at a fixed price, I'm staring it at zero with no reserve, so it's the high bid that gets it. Sold AS IS, WHERE IS, but it's a nice car and someone's going to get a deal. I do have it advertised locally for $4500, and if I get something close to that I reserve the right to end the listing early. Email any questions, and if you include your number I am happy to call. High bidder gets it, but you must pick it up and pay in person within 3 days of the listing. If you win, and you come look at it and it's not exactly as I described, you do not have to take it. But NO OFFERS will be accepted after the listing ends, for less than your bid. I'm not a dealer, and wont waste your time, please do me the same favor. I have a very difficult schedule, and as it is I am making an effort to be here a few days after the auction ends so you can pick it up, so figure on picking it up within a 3 day window from the close of the auction unless other arraingements are made in advance.
