Vehicle Detail

This low milage, matching numbers automobile is both a show winner and a superb driver that has won several trophies in JCNA sanctioned events.  The current owner is a past president of the South Florida Jaguar Club, a JCNA judge, and  an ex vintage car racer who understands how this car should perform.  The result is one of the most reliable, best handling XK120 you will find.  This car is ready to show and drive and is currently located in Los Angeles. This XK120 is an original left-hand drive model that was built in July, 1952 and dispached to the USA on August 12, 1952 to Jaguar distributor Max Hoffman in New York and sold to the Lampson family in South Hampton, NY.  They passed it to Bob Grossman who sold it to the current owner in 1993. Aficionados of sports car racing will recognize Bob Grossman as a veteran race car driver, member of the Briggs Cunningham racing team, six time veteran of Le Mans, and three times US Racing Champion.  In 1960 he and John Fitch co-drove a Corvette at Le Mans to give Corvette its first significant international victory.  Vistors to Lime Rock vintage events, as well as automobile shows in the Northeast, are familiar with Bob as an artist specializing in watercolor paintings of vintage race events.  Included with the sale of this auto is an original art work of this car by Bob that was given to the owner as a gift. While this vehicle has benefited from numerous mechanical upgrades to enhance its performance, careful attention has been paid to maintain the car's valuable authentcity.  The engine is original with the exception of replacing the points with an electronic unit that fits within the original distributor preserving the proper look.  Everything relating to braking has been replaced or rebuilt including stainless steel brake lines.  Exhaust is also stainless steel with an incredible sound.  The suspension system was completely rebuil using poly bushings for a more direct feel.  This car stops and handles! This car represents a unique opportunity to acquire a fully sorted,  low mileage example of the Jaguar XK120.  The seats have been redone for this sale and fitted with new tires. Dayton rebuilt the wire wheels with six inch rims so modern radial tires could be used.  This is indeed a very special motor car. See the 2009 September-October issue of the "Jaguar Journal" magazine for a story about the car.
