Vehicle Detail
1968 Ford F-100 Custom Cab High Quality Time Capsule Father and Son owned for 45 years Restored in 1998 and garaged ever since Matching numbers 360, Rebuilt automatic (C6), Virtually Perfect body and frame 68,000 Original Miles. This is an absolutely stunning and well preserved 1968 Ford F-100. One look and you will see the high quality paint job, photographed within the last 30 days, which was actually applied in 1998. Well preserved because it has always been in the dry climate of the mid west and meticulously stored in a UV free environment since 1998. Therefore, no significant rust or UV damage ever existed from day one that had to be removed during restoration. Additionally, this already great truck become even greater after going through a very nice restoration. While I am no expert on restoration, I do own two F-100’s and have seen several hundred of these trucks over the past few years. I want the prospective purchaser to know that I will give a very thorough and accurate description of this truck to the best of my ability so that you have as much information as possible in order to make informed decision. I am a straight shooter and will be happy to take additional pictures and answer all of your questions. I will also facilitate any inspection (at purchaser’s expense). I truly believe this truck is one of the best preserved trucks in the country and here is why I make that statement: First of all, it is a one owner truck (other than myself) purchased new by the father in the dry climate state of Colorado in 1968. He drove the truck until his passing in 1973 when it was transferred to his wife and son. I have the title dated 1997 when the son had it transferred into his name. the following year he had a very good restoration done to it and then kept it in a three car garage (as seen in background of the truck with Colorado tags) from 1998 to 2013. During this 15 year period of time, it was driven a total of only 2000 miles. This is why the restoration looks like it was done a year or two ago. Yes, the paint is 15 years old but has been wearing “SPF Garage” sunscreen for years! I just purchased it and personally drove it from Denver to Atlanta, Georgia with my son. It performed almost perfect the entire way. The only issue I had was losing both headlamp low beams! Even though I had AAA as a Plan B, I did not have to call them to rescue me. This great truck proved itself reliable over three days and 1400 miles, so if you want to fly in and drive her home, take comfort in that recent fact. “You will like what you see” All of the pictures you see were taken within the last 30 days. You be the judge but I think this truck is virtually perfect and certainly show quality. I do have receipts for most of the work done. Here is a partial list of the 1998 restoration: The engine, transmission, front clip, and bed were removed from the truck. The rust free frame was cleaned and repainted black. There was minor surface rust only on some areas of the truck body but there were no areas rusted through. No body filler was needed whatsoever except to fill the trim holes that were along the bottom of the body where the trim pieces were formally located. No body filler (except in trim holes) was used anywhere else on this truck. The owner told me the bed and body were sanded to bare metal then painted. He also stated that the front clip and bed were removed from the truck frame. The cab was not removed from the frame because the mounts and bushings were and are in virtually new condition. Take a look at the original bumpers, bushings, and pictures of the underside and see for yourself. This is why I say it has been well preserved. The truck has never been so destroyed by the elements that it even required extensive bodywork. The word amazing is overused but it really applies to this truck. The body panels align perfectly. The doors close just like the day they were in the showroom. Mechanically, everything works as new. The paint receipt shows that the prep and application was done over a period of three weeks at a cost of close to $5000. The color is not original but looks beautiful as you have already seen. It also looks different in different lighting conditions. The color is blue in bright sunshine, teal in medium sunlight, and dark green at dusk. I realize that color is subjective but this is the nicest color I have ever seen on any truck or car for that matter. The transmission was rebuilt by Aamco. The engine was not rebuilt because it was tested at the time and in perfect running condition and still is. Remember, I just drove it across the country and it performed perfectly so you have proven reliability in the engine. Everything that surrounds the engine was, however, rebuilt or replaced. The original two barrel carburetor was rebuilt. The radiator was routed out and cleaned. All belts and hoses were replaced. A complete tune up was done including replacement of the distributor, wires, starter, water pump, fuel pump, and alternator. All brakes and brake cylinders were replaced. The front windshield was replaced as were the rubber gaskets on the front and rear windshields. The rear windshield is original but you would swear it was new because it is optically very clear (again further proof of little UV exposure). The driver and passenger window felts are also new. The rubber gasket at the gas cap was replaced. The chrome bumpers were not replaced. They were polished only since they were in such good condition. Again the dry climate, meticulous maintenance, dry storage, and low use, have worked well together to preserve this fine piece of Ford Truck History. The interior is all original including the Ford Philco AM Radio. The steering wheel is smooth and shiny and feels heavenly in your hands. All gauges and illumination work as in day one. The black and chrome instrument cluster trim shows some sign of age but is very presentable. The dash has only one 3” long hairline crack from the speaker area to the windshield and the speaker perforation area is cracked around its perimeter as well. However, no cracks protrude rearward into the cab and, thus, are not visible; again low UV exposure. The pictures do speak for themselves. They have not been retouched and are current within the last 30 days. Why am I selling ? As I mentioned, I now have two F-100’s. I have a 67 F100 (seen in some of the pictures) that I was going to sell and keep upgrade to this 68. However, upon seeing this truck in person and driving it across the US, It was so much better than expected. I just cannot justify actually driving this truck regularly. It really is a show truck and deserves further preservation. It sits my garage because I don’t want to expose her to the nutcase drivers here in Atlanta (although I live north of the city, my county alone has over 800,000 people so you get my drift) Here is a summary of the descriptions found on the receipts I have : Door seals and glass runs, Harvey Crandell Exhaust System: Mustang Terminator Muffler, Headers, Welded flange 3”-2 1/8”,Aamco rebuilt transmission: torque converter, banner assembly set, front band, low Sprag, bushings, vacuum modulator, filter, Thermostat, valve cover gaskets, wheel cylinders, starter solenoid switch, fuel pump, clean and rodout radiator, and rear axle bearings. The body shop worked on the truck for 23 days: Exterior and complete interior of the truck body, all sides of bed, and frame were prepped and painted. The body color is “Cayman Green” (Same color found on a 1994 Mercury Tracer) Note: I am not really a fan of a Tracer but this is how you can identify the paint if ever needed in the future. There are several other items that are apparent on the truck as new even though I don’t have receipts for those items: Tires, wheels, mirrors to name a few. Ask any question you want but the answer, in advance, will be positive because there are no surprises with this truck. It is a true time capsule. I have several pictures and will be happy to take whatever additional pictures you want. Just email me and tell me where you want me to aim the camera. There is nothing to hide on this truck. I forgot to mention the spare is in tact and seems to be original although I have not confirmed it. I also have the confirmed original hubcaps which will go with the truck. I had the seat redone and closely matched the original design. Defects: There are two small holes in the rear bumper that are about ½” in diameter. The seatbelts are a bit tired but not frayed. The bulbs on the original front fog lights are blown. The rear bumper does show some signs of fade on the top. I looked up high into the rear fenders and there is some surface rust still present. I tried to photograph these areas. I would add a fan shroud if you plan on sitting in any traffic but who wants to do that! Fly in and drive this beauty home. My son and I just did…from Denver to Atlanta and it was a total joy. The picture of him smiling ( a smile almost as big as Colorado) was taken somewhere east of Denver when he first got behind the wheel! That alone made the trip worthwhile for me. Happy bidding and thanks for reading this long description. Roger On Jun-09-13 at 07:14:17 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: I just added another picture of the truck taken 6/7/13 on an overcast day so you can see how it looks even when the sun is not shining. This photo is the last in the series of pictures. Also, I have uploaded a video to Utube. Search "Rumbling 68 F 100 time capsule" and enjoy!
