Vehicle Detail

This is an original 8129-mile barn find Time Capsule! This 1979 Camaro Z28 350/4 speed has sat in a Wisconsin barn for over the last 26 years. The original owner special ordered this car from Belleville Auto Co in Belleville Wisconsin on 3/23/1979. This special ordered car is highly optioned. It has a deluxe carmine red cloth interior, AM/FM 8 track stereo, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, tilt steering wheel and rear defog. Everything on the car still works except for the power antenna because the plastic drive belt dry rotted. The car currently has only 8129 original miles on it. The 350 engine runs perfectly and the internals are still factory fresh. When you remove the oil cap and look at the inside it looks clean like a brand new engine and all the color markings are bright and visible. There are no leaks and does not smoke at all. I did not remove the valve cover because I did not want to make it leak. The 4 speed Borg Warner Super T10 shifts smoothly and is nice and tight as if it has not been broken in yet. The rear end is the original 373 Posi traction. This Camaro has the original Goodyear polysteel radial tires still on all 4 rims. The tires look new but from sitting these tires have flat spots on them and I would not want to drive a car often with 34-year-old rubber on them. The caps and trim ring on the rims look brand new with no scratches or wear on them. The space saver spare and jack are in brand new condition and still in the trunk of the car. I also have the original Delco Freedom battery that came with this car when it was built. Unfortunately the batteries don’t last 34 years but it is still cool to have and will go with the car. The original owner (who was 81 years old at the time I purchased this car) said when he bought this car he drove it most the first 2 years he owned it as his “summer car”. He then drove it a few times a year up until 1987 when he parked it in a barn and would start it and move it once in a while but did not take it anywhere. He still continued to register the car but stopped after 1996 because he had not started it for many years and the battery was dead. According to the oil change stickers on the door the last time he changed the oil was 5/20/1986 @ 7728 miles. I saved the AC Delco PF 25 oil filter, that appeared to be period correct for 1986, that I took off when I changed the oil. I’ve driven this car about 27 miles since I had it. The car runs strong and tight like an 8000-mile car should. I’ve gone over this car and found it to be legitimate with the miles it shows. All belts, hoses, clamps are original GM. The spiral shocks are present all the way around the car. The exhaust with the GM numbers on the mufflers, the AC catalytic converter and pipes are all GM original. The front brake rotors, pads, calipers, master cylinder, brake booster as well as the rear drums that still have the drum clips and labels on them are all GM original. The interior of this Camaro is mint with no wear on anything and the seats are like brand new. The original headliner was sagging so a replacement was put up on the original headliner board. The engine runs like it is brand new, just as an 8000-mile car should. There is no smoke or leaks of any kind. The A/C compressor works and still engages. I did not have it on long to see how cool the A/C get because I did not want to chance snapping the original belt. The 4 speed trans is nice and tight and shifts very smoothly. This car was stored in a non-climate controlled barn in Wisconsin so there are some areas of surface rust, the worst of it on the lower doors. The lower door skin has surface rust at the bottom as shown but it is not into the doors and should be no problem to save the original door skin. There is some surface rust behind the passenger door on the lower ¼ panel but is only on the surface so the ¼ panel does not have to be replaced. There are no holes or other issues in the car. The floors and trunk areas are solid. Body mounts are not dry rotted out and the sub frame and rear frame rails are solid. The rear ¼ wheel wells are perfect. This car was rust proofed from the dealer when it was purchased new so that saved a lot of further issues from happening to this car. I have the following documents to go with the car… -The original order sheet from the dealer when the customer special ordered the car on 3/23/1979. -The build sheet showing the build date of 5/11/1979. This sheet was located and pulled from the rear seat back. It was scanned and copied then put back in the original spot for the new owner to retrieve if they desired. -The driver seat bottom still has the interior sheet that shows a build date of the seats of 2/27/1979. This was photographed and left in the original location. -A copy of the title showing the original owner name which is the same as on the order sheet. The title is a replacement because the owner did not know where he put the original 34 years ago. - Original copies of the 1985 and 1996 registration. The last time he renewed the plates was in 1996. When I bought this car originally I figured I would do a fix the lower rust on the doors and leave it but then I could not say the car was all original. As I went over the car and noticed all the original 1979 parts and the low mileage on the car I almost felt it would be wrong to change anything or put more miles on it. I could easily restore a different one that has 80,000 plus mileage and not feel bad about driving it or changing anything. I feel I should leave this car the way it came from the factory because they are only original once! I want to rebuild a car to drive and put miles on so I feel I should pass this one on to someone that may have a better plan for it. All the original parts are there and can be reused if it is restored or it can be left as it is. I’ve taken many pictures and explained it the best I can. To feel the real aura of this car it needs to be seen in person. When you restore a car you go off other restorations or pictures. When you look at this one there is no second-guessing. This is the way it left the factory and has not been changed since. If you would like to view the car I would be happy to show it so please contact me to set up an appointment. I’ve attached a photo bucket link with additional pictures but I’m sorry they are in a random order. If you have any questions or would like to see or have me take any other pictures please ask. This car being all original and over 34 years old is sold as is. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer however I will assist in any way I can to get the job done. A 500.00 deposit is required 48 hours after auctions end. The remaining balance is due by the time the car is picked up. The car will not leave my garage until all funds are cleared. Please email me with any questions on this 8000-mile original survivor! Remember… They are only original once! The car is a manual 4 speed not an automatic. The car also has the original GM floor mats also. There is a picture added to the photo link.
