Vehicle Detail

If you're looking for a Porsche 914, probably the most important thing you're looking for is a rust free car. They're hard to find, but that's what this example is. That's because it came from the Los Angeles area of dry southern California (the communities of Walnut and West Covina to be specific.) I can't find any evidence of rust repair anywhere on the car. Even the dreaded hell holes are solid. The known history of this car is as follows: The car was owned by Jessie Chen in the Los Angeles area. He brought the car with him in 1998 when he moved to Georgia (Atlanta area). The car set in dry storage from 1999 until 2010 when it was purchased by an Atlanta area Porsche restorer. Restoration work that has been performed on the car: stripped and painted the car in the original Rally Yellow, Porsche Code L10A with urethane base coat, clear coat new brakes and calipers new tires new exhaust Koni shocks many new hoses and vacuum lines new ignition switch new rubber seals, front trunk, rear trunk and windows tuned to run smoothly including the original Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection which works great. This system is a lot better than any of the carburetor conversions. Pedrinin alloy wheels (Porsche option in 1972) correctly refinished with new lugs and center caps Interior is a combination of correct German replacement materials and good originals. New mats installed in front and rear trunks Targa hardtop and lower panels along the sides and front of the car restored in correct pebble surface gain New speakers for the radio and interior light lens The original tools and tool roll is still with the car, shown in one of the images. The odometer reading of just over 72,600 is believed to be correct because of the long storage and a repair receipt dated December 23, 1997 from a shop in Walnut, CA that shows the odometer reading of 67,116 (shown in one of the pictures). The car was put into storage the following year for nearly a dozen years. After that it was undergoing restoration. Not quite 5,000 miles since 1997 seems entirely reasonable. The low odometer reading is also supported by the two pictures of the engine. First note that although the engine is clean, it has never been painted and detailed. An original factory marking on the engine can still be seen, as shown in the detail engine picture. The car starts every time, whether hot or cold, idles well, runs well. It recently completed a 130 miles trip without a hiccup. The car drives well and it is smooth on the road. There is no notable blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull. The transmission shifts nicely and does not pop out of gear. The clutch feels good. It has a period correct Motorola AM-FM radio/cassette that does work. The windows crank up and down easily without binding. Both seats adjust forward and back. It's a fun car to drive and is economical, getting 30 mpg. The instruments work, the wipers work and the headlights go up and down without any clunking sound or binding. And it's a rust-free car-never had any the best I can tell. You can let this car set in the garage for a month and it will start at the first turn of the key. How many old cars can match that? Over forty high resolutions images are included with this auction. A 10-minute video showing a walk around and short drive is included. At one point in the video, the color is called Saturn Yellow. That's a mistake. As detailed in this description, the color is Porsche Rally Yellow, Code L10A. Inspection of the car is encouraged and we will try to answer all questions. Inspections must be completed before the auction closes, not after you win the bid. We will be happy to cooperate with any shipping arrangements you might make, but shipping is at your expense.
