Vehicle Detail
Engine #: CT13290EChassis #: 12913 CTThe Good:-The engine runs very well and hold over 40 lbs. of oil pressure at an idle of 900 RPM and over 60 lbs under drive conditions. It shows no oil burning smoke and sounds very tight. Odometer reads 31,952, but cannot validate. Purrs like a kitten.-Clear CA title in hand. I traced history of car and was able to secure re-issuance of original 1963 plates. The plates shown are the originals that I have restored and took to DMV to validate origin and was issued approval to use original California plates. Valid until March 2014.-No rust in trunk. No rust under hood. No rust in back seat area. There are many photos to provide an in-depth view of the car being sold. I have two (2) videos that I can send via e-mail showing the car driving and hear the engine run.-New radiator, new fuel pump, new master cylinder, new clutch and slave cylinders, new front disk brakes and lines, new rear brakes and lines. -Transmission shifts smoothly. Rear differential works well. All oils and greases changed. -Everything there is original equipment. Original instrument panel and all instruments. -Aluminum grill is a 9.5 and only in need of polish. Front and rear bumpers are a 9.0 with no dents, bends or rust. Picture will show one front bumper guard missing, but it is included in the accessory equipment photo.-Five (5) matching steel wheels and four (4) original hubcaps with Triumph "World" logo. Original jack and other tools included. The Bad:-Owners did not take care to protect the car from the elements, so floor pans will need replacement. The inner and outer rocker on passenger side will need replacement. Lower front fender repair patches will be needed. All pieces readily available on ebay or British Victoria or Moss.-Due to years of non-op status and sitting outside, I am certain the engine needs to be pulled and have all rubber seals replaced. There is some small seepage, but no major leaks. The clutch slips, but may be only an adjustment.-Has the tires that came when I purchased it, so over 30 years old. Must be replaced. If not sold for reserve price, I will complete the car myself. If I bought new tires, they would just be added to the reserve, so you can purchase the tires you want. Car must be towed or trailered. Will not release for buyer to drive from point of sale. General:-Wonderful opportunity to bring a great car back to life. Bought from family who owned for over 40 years. Buyer should be able and aware of work needed to automobile. Purchase "as is" condition. This is a wonderful 1963 Triumph TR 4 that is a complete car with original drive train, accessories and in unmolested condition.-Original Lucas generator and starter. Electrical system is also original. This means Lucas and everything associated with their reputation. Generator puts out current, but voltage regulator does not convert from generator to battery, so electrical work needed. Turn signals work. Headlights do not, but illuminate with direct current. Suspect switch or short.-Interior needs entire replacement. Beyond the rusted floors, the drive and passenger seat need total rebuild. There are two frames, but the coil springs and padding need replacement. The red and white drive seat you see comes with car and was one I sewed together to get the car driveable, but is not intended to represent an original replacement.-Convertible top frame complete and functional, but in need of refinish. Unused new top, but too old to use, as clear plastic has turned brown. Good template or replace clear vinyl. If you don't see the value of the car just by viewing the photos and recognizing the potential, then this is not a car for you. The successful bidder knows that this car deserves to be taken down to the chassis and rebuilt in an original state and the owner will have a gem. I am extending my effort at full disclosure, so the buyer needs to know exactly what they are buying. I am selling the car, because I have a TR3A and TR6. I was going to redo this TR4 for my wife, but bought the TR6, which is essentially done, so the TR4 has to go. Neither of the other Triumphs are for sale. Take a look and see what you think. I have a reasonable reserve that recognizes the investment of original purchase price and new parts purchased with no labor costs included. If the reserve is not met, I will keep the car and am not interested in making any "deals" outside of ebay. I will respond to reasonable questions and be as helpful to legitimate interested parties as I am able. The car is located in Sacramento CA and it will be the responsibility of the new owner to tow the car, as the tires are not safe to take on any streets. I have a trailer and can deliver after cash payment to any distance not to exceed 500 miles at a cost of $2.00 per mile for one way cost. Thanks for your careful consideration of this great car. Someone (possibly me) will be happy with this car in the future. On Apr-20-13 at 13:08:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are several YouTube videos of the car running: Engine Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtHslw8JJHoDrive Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bUB4OmR8_0 On Apr-23-13 at 14:03:07 PDT, seller added the following information: One (1) picture of right side added.
