Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a very rare VW Bandito dune buggy that was factory built in 1969 by "Chimeta Enterprises" in New Smyrna Beach Florida. This buggy started life as a 1961 VW Beetle and was brought to the factory to have the pans shortened, motor replaced, and the dune buggy conversion done on site. This is the same car used for the "Bandito" advertising brochure photos as taken in January 1969 by the manufacturer and very few were built. The car is all original except for minor restoration and is extremely solid and runs well. It is still equipt with the then new 1969 1600 single port motor that the factory installed when it was built, and has less than 51,000 original miles. This buggy has also had some recent restoration work done on it for increased drivability and reliability such as Pertronix electronic ignition, wires and plugs, valve job, Empi front shocks, Gabriel Hi-Jackers rear air shocks, front and rear brake drums and shoes, Bug-Pack megaphone exhaust, So-Cal finned aluminum valve covers, carburetor rebuild, Mastercraft white letter tires, and American Racing Torque-Thrust wheels just to name a few of the recent updates. This car has been a Florida buggy all its life and has been well cared for as well, it is currently located in Stuart Florida. I bought it from the second owner who gave me the complete history on the car. This is as close to going back in time as you will ever see because this car has never been butchered or modified in any way like most chopped up buggies on the market today. It is a BLAST to drive and it handles very well. All of the work done on this car is retro period correct and it looks like it came out of a time capsule, if you want to have an AWESOME summer beach cruiser that will attract alot of attention then this is the car for you. The dune buggy was recently filmed for a future episode of "My Classic Car" with Dennis Guage and the dash was signed by him as well. Stand out from all the "Manx" copycat dune buggies at the next car show, I guarantee you will never see another one like it, HURRY SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE!!!!!! If you have any further questions please call Jay at 561-573-0332 On Apr-16-13 at 09:14:44 PDT, seller added the following information: In response to some questions I have received on the car, I would like to add the following. The roof is the factory original fiberglass hardtop that came with the car when new. The buggy is also equipt with a factory roll bar. I even have the original snap-on canvas side covers with vintage diamond shaped vinyl windows that came with the buggy from the factory. The roof comes off in minutes by removing six screws to become a convertible. Also the floor pans on this car are rust free as is the rest of the vehicle. The car has never been wrecked and the front I-beam and kingpins are in good shape as well. The photos speak for themselves and as you can see the buggy has always been garage kept, and all the lights, signals, gauges, and wipers are in working order. This is a turn key dune buggy that is ready to drive and have fun with anywhere.
