Vehicle Detail
This 1965 Triumph T-120C was one of the famous purple/pink and yellow flat track and TT racers from Custom Engineering in Bakersfield, Ca. The old race photos are from Dan Mahony, famous motorsports photographer, show #23 Rick Newby racing at Sprockets Park. Other notable pilots that raced Custom Engineering Triumphs are Ron Pierce and Dave and Bill Bostrom (father and uncle of Ben and Eric Bostrom-famous racer racers in MotoGP and American Road Racing). The old race photos show some of the incredible period and custom parts such as the oil tank, air filter housing, Bates fiberglass gas tank and matching bump seat that are still on this bike. It was purchased by my family in 1969 and was set up with lights for street riding, nothing else was changed from the purchase date except for the paint. This is an original numbers matching T-120C motorcycle. Notable original custom hand made items are the incredible custom alloy oil tank, alloy air filter holder, custom engine mounts, custom mounting hardware and special custom rear foot brake unit, just to mention a few. Rare period items include a matching pair of super rare Al Gunter magnesium hubs, magnesium Hurst Airheart front and rear disc brakes, thin flanged Borrani alloy wheels, original Bates fiberglass gas tank and rear hump seat, custom machined Amal alloy clutch and front brake levers and original dent-less "cocktail shaker" mufflers. This rare historical piece has not been ridden since the early 80,s. It has been sprayed with a heavy oil and covered in a garage, the motor turns over smoothly. I did not wash or clean the bike prior to the photos. The original race colors can be found on the Al Gunter hubs and under the white bodywork. A true historical time capsule which should not be difficult to get back on the road or track! This bike is being sold without any warranty or representation and is sold "as-is, where-is". All shipping is up to the buyer and I will help where I can. Good Luck!On Apr-11-13 at 15:08:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello, thanks for all the questions, thought I would post a few answers to some of the more frequently asked questions. Yes, this vintage racer was originally a matching numbers 1965 Triumph Bonneville 650 T-120C. A little of the Custom Engineering paint, purple and yellow, can be seen on the rear Al Gunter magnesium hub, also the Bates seat cover is showing a little of the yellow color under the black as well. The Al Gunter magnesium matching hubs are very rare as only a few matching sets were made. The mufflers on the bike are original Bates "cocktail shakers" and are in great condition when clean. The rare Bates fiberglass gas tank and bump seat are in wonderful condition, without any leaks or cracks. The custom alloy air filter housing held an oval paper filter element. On Apr-11-13 at 17:07:25 PDT, seller added the following information: Yes, the rare Hurst AirHeart brake calipers are magnesium and the rotors are Hurst AirHeart pieces all well. On Apr-12-13 at 09:28:07 PDT, seller added the following information: The paint on the frame looks to be original.
