Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1965 convertible Mustang that is partially restored. It was originally a six-cylinder, but was being converted to a V8 car. The following is a summary of what has been done to the car so far: When I began working on the Mustang it was an older restoration from the early 90s. It was stripped down to a shell, the undercarriage and engine bay were both sandblasted to bare metal. The undercarriage was painted with POR-15 semi-gloss black and the engine bay was primed and painted with DuPont semi-gloss chassis black. The entire front suspension was replaced. The steering box was sandblasted to bare metal, powder-coated, then rebuilt. The springs were replaced with 620 lb/in coil springs. The sway bar is a 1 1/8” bar with new end links. The pitman arm, center link, tie-rods, and control arms were replaced with new parts from Mustangs Unlimited. All rubber bushings were replaced with urethane bushings. The spindles were from a V8 Mustang and have been stripped and powder- coated the correct bare metal finish. The suspension hardware was stripped and electroplated. New five-spoke rotors, bearings and backsplashes are from StainlessSteel Brakes Corporation. The front wheels are five-lug wheels from an original V8 ’65 Mustang that have been sandblasted, primed with POR-15 primer and painted the correct semi-gloss black. Three other five-lug wheels come with the car. The front tires are new Firestone FR440 with zero miles on them. All finishes on the front steering and suspension parts are correct, either a semi-gloss black or a powder-coated bare metal finish. As far as the body goes, both doors have been replaced with new door shells from the Paddock. Both rear quarter panels were stripped to bare metal, and have a light coat of bondo and a primer coat on them. The red paint that is currently on the rest of the car is from an older paint job. The hood latch and hinges have been stripped to bare metal and powder-coated the correct grey finish. The rear suspension has new replacement leaf springs and shackles for a V8 car and the original six-cylinder rear end. All original glass, except for the windshield is included. All stainless steel trim is included, some pieces have been professionally polished and buffed to a show quality shine. The car has many new parts, including front and rear bumpers, and speedometer cluster. The seat foam and upholstery has been replaced with pony seat foam and black upholstery. All of the parts that were removed come with the car with the exception of the windshield, engine, transmission and driveshaft. A 289 block and heads, as well as a 4 barrel intake manifold and rear end from a ’65 V8 Mustang are available in separate auctions.
