Vehicle Detail
1984 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 5.0 HO 5sp Hello, I have up for auction a 1984 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 5.0 HO 5speed manual car. This car is in need of a restoration. I purchased this car to add to my collection of IROC body cars but I have moved on to some other projects and need to sell this one. This is the last year of the carbureted cars, after 84 they went to a fuel injection set up. That is not the only rarity of this car though, it is also a 5 speed manual car, not quiet as rare as the last 4 speed cars but no the less few of these were ordered with manual transmissions. This car was women owned its entire life and then put in storage by her sister until it was sold to the previous owner, he allowed it to sit for a bit before I purchased it. So onto the car, The body; The body on this car is in nice shape. The floors in it are very strong, with no rust and no major damage. The trunk is also very strong. I took a picture of the famous "Camaro back braise" and you can see that it is not rotted through but does have some surface rust, easily cleanable with a wire brush. The fenders on the car are rust free but one does have a dent in the front. The doors will need some work, the bottoms are rough, not rough enough that they would absolutely need to be replaced but I was going to. The quarters do have some rust in them in the outer skins. Most of the quarter rust is around the wheel lips, but nothing on the lower quarters or in the cans. The paint is in nice condition, it was nicely rubbed out before I purchased it and still looks nice but seeings how some of the panels need work you may or may not want to paint the car. I can only find a few dents in the car, one fender and one quarter panel, see the pictures. There may be a few door dings here and there as well. The plastic front bumper will need some support because it has some dips in it. The body shows no signs of ever having been in any major accidents before. The Drivetrain; The engine runs very strong, a couple pumps of the accelerator and it fires right up in the cold. The Quadrajet carb will need to be rebuilt though, the car sat for many years and the previous owner messed with the carb and cleaned it enough for it to run but it has not been rebuilt. This is also the reason I would not suggest trying to drive the car a long distance due to this unknown. The clutch is still strong and grabs well. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. The brakes work good as well. I believe some of the gaskets are leaking on the front of the motor, Im not sure where from but I have seen some oil droplets. I have driven the car down my road a few times and it does drive nicely down the road and does drive nice and straight. In all, mechanically this is a strong car! The interior; The interior on this car is an old 80's interior. It does show signs of wear. The drivers side seat does have some wear that has started to show the actual cushion. The other seats are dirty, they could possibly be cleaned very well and made to look presentable but I believe the interior kit for this car is insanely cheap so I was going to just replace the upholstery instead. The carpet is warn, weathered and stained. I would suggest replacing it which once again isn't expensive. The headliner is missing, the previous owner took it out and never replaced it. Other then that the panels are in good shape, the plastic panels could use a good vinyl dye spray to be freshened up but are in otherwise good shape. The dashboard is nice as well, just needs a nice cleaning. Im not going to say for sure if it does or does not have a minor crack in the dash pad, but most of these cars do. In all this is a great little project car, it is nothing that a hobbyist would have to put a lot of time, money or work into to have a great looking car. I have restored a few of these cars now and I can say that nothing on them is either hard to work on or hard to find and everything is cheap! These make nice and easy father son projects and this one would be perfect for that! They're also very reliable cars and are great for long distance rides, I know the first day I finished my car I went on an 80 mile round trip drive.
