Vehicle Detail
Back in the day, those of us who lived in New England and wanted the best bike around, generally chose a BMW, and soon or late ended up with an R60, desirable for the reliability and general all around usefulness of this bike. The R69S was faster, by at least 10-15 MPH, but we rarely had occasion to drive over 90 anyway At the speeds we generally traveled, 55-60, you shift into high gear and cruise all day, with or without a passenger. It was thought by many that you couldn't go wrong with an R60. I still believe this. .This bike is like a time capsule- If you were fortunate enough to be able to buy one of these in 1967, this is what you would have driven home on. The bike is not restored- paint is original, as are all the fasteners; all correct, all with the correct finish Frame, engine and headstock badge have matching numbers.. As an AMC Judge, I'm confident that this bike would get at least the 95 points needed for a Senior award. I bought this two years ago because it was the most complete and correct one of these that I have seen in years. Even the bench seat and Denfield folding luggage rack were "must have" items. I also have the large touring seat that was commonly used in the late sixties, and is still the most comfortable for long trips. I will include if desired. The engine has had work, including new slingers and top end work. I put on new tires, a new ignition coil and new liners in the brakes. I also changed the (leaking) petcock for a newer style; I will include the old one with the sale. Bike always starts easily and runs like new. I also comes with a complete tool kit in the original roll, and the correct owner's manual. There is also a shop manual, also from the 1960's. Having done all this, I drove the bike about 200 miles, with no problems or mishaps. As it happens, I already have an R60, one that I bought in 1972. Now we are ready to downsize, so I have to part with some bikes, my loss will be your gain. Good luck bidding; you can be confident that what you are buying is as good as a 45 year old bike can be- new tires, recent major service, this one just needs to be used. I am in NW Connecticut; if you want to see this bike please email. I will help with shipping to the extent that I am able. I will meet buyer and help load, or I can deliver to a commercial location for pickup by Federal or other shipper. If buyer is in NE US, I can probably arrange delivery at buyer's expense. I will deliver in person within 100 miles of home, but will require payment in advance and help unloading.
