Vehicle Detail
A little history: I’ve been a watercooled VW fan for a long time. I’ve owned several Sciroccos, Rabbits/Golfs, and various other VWs over the years. I originally purchased this Scirocco as a parts car over 15 years ago. The car was already not street legal when I bought it and my plan was to cannibalize it for projects—never got around to it—overseas assignments and family commitments took priority. Due to its condition and legal status this car is recommended only for parts or possibly as a racing chassis (more details below). Hardware—a few key items: · Aftermarket turbo system (crude, 1980’s vintage, maybe BAE) installed on a 4-cylinder, 1.8L 8V gas engine (don’t know exactly what version)—presently DOES NOT RUN · 5-speed manual transmission (original, I’m guessing) · Koni adjustable struts (front) and coilover shocks (rear) · Yakima roof rack (locked, no keys) · The wheels are not a matched set; there are two types of 13” alloys and also a steel spare. Note: The tires are merely able to roll the car and are not roadworthy. The main mechanical parts are interchangeable with VW Rabbits and Jettas of the same vintage (aka “Mk I”). Condition—brutally honest assessment: The years of sitting outside in the weather have not been kind to this car but this is in California, so damage is mostly due to sun exposure. Although not a rust bucket, it does have some rust and perforation in areas of superficial body damage (scratches and dings) and amateur body work (previous owner used sheet metal screws to attach spoilers and side skirts, no longer on the car). It has no major collision damage that I know of. Still has original color paint “Indian Red”. The interior has mostly been stripped but dash and instruments are mostly intact; has one front seat, an aftermarket steering wheel. Sheet metal and glass on the car are probably decent enough to repair another car. Legal implications: The car is untitled (listing did not have option for this, so it shows "salvage'). It was officially scrapped (“junked”) through the California DMV—I have paper work for it. The car has a European speedometer/odometer that does not show the actual mileage on the car—I got it that way (listing shows "99,999" as a placeholder). It would be extremely difficult (almost impossible) to re-register this car as a street-legal vehicle in California. Therefore, my recommendation is to use it as a source of parts or as an off-road vehicle only. This car is sold strictly “as is”. Payment:A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 is due within 24 hours of listing end. Deposit to be made by PayPal or cash. Remaining balance must be paid in the form of cashier’s check from local bank or cash prior to releasing car. Shipping: Buyer responsible for vehicle pick-up. A suitable towing rig to hold all four wheels off the road is required to take the car; a winch will be a big help, too. The car must be picked up within 7 days of auction end. I must sell ASAP because the car needs to be removed from the property where it is parked; I no longer have space for it at my own home. I really want to see the car reused in whole or in parts instead of going to the crusher but not much time left. Make a bid to take this increasingly rare car for a pittance!
