Vehicle Detail

1992 XJS/XJR-S Hello, next in the line of cars I am selling is a 1992 Jaguar XJS that was converted by the owner of Welsh Enterprises (Jaguar parts dealer) in Steubenville, Ohio who wanted an XJR-S and could not find one to buy, so he created his own with the addition of the XJR-S' unique windows, bodywork, engine, transmission, and suspension. I don't know what it cost for him to do this, but it probably helped to own a Jaguar parts business ! I always liked the XJR-S model (only 100 were made for the US market, 50 coupes and 50 convertibles), the car picqued my interest. So I bought it on eBay and had it shipped enclosed carrier from Ohio. Upon arrival about six months ago, the car needed more work than described, so I took it to my local dealer and had the following work done: New headlinerNew tiresNew (vintage) Ronal rims (I prefer these rims to the Speedline XJR-S Sport wheels the owner had on the car - these rims are included in the sale if you prefer them)Oil changeNew NGK plugsNew fuel filters, tank sending unit, fuel linesCoolant flush and changeNew fuel pumps (expensive)Gas tank pulled and cleanedNew hood shocksFront wheel bearingsAll new belts New batterySeveral other items I can't recall - will update posting. I had it in my mind that I would get the bronze color painted. In fact I bought the car because I liked the bodywork and the gray interior (no XJR-S were sold with gray interior). I was planning on a silver or light gray color, which would set off the rims and match the interior. But the bronze color grew on me (it is unique - don't recall ever seeing another car this color) and I decided to focus on mechanicals first. That said, I decided to sell the car to fund other projects and free up garage space so I will let an XJS or fellow XJR-S fan pick it up and finish the work. I don't expect to recover my investment in the car, but I hope that it will go to someone who will finish it up and enjoy this very low-mileage, big engine cat. The car can now be driven safely but still needs: Steering rack rebuilt (feels fine, but dealer said it was leaking)Rear differential service (makes a whirring noise, no clunks)A/C charge (all the equipment is there) Stereo repair (there is a place you can send the stock radios and get them serviced and have an iPod adapter added - that was my plan)Front brake job (stops fine, this was the dealer's recommendation)Nicks and scratches, mainly on the front air damExhaust gasket leak on left side - not fatal, just a little noisier than normalBlack rubber bumpers should be painted I really like to drive this car, it's very comfortable and has great power. If you have not driven an XJS, they are big, smooth, and cozy inside. Big car, close-fitting interior. I will buy another one some day when garage space permits (must sell several cars now). Jackie Stewart, then a consultant for Jag and later Ford, said the XJS was one of his favorite cars to drive, and I can see why. The smooth power of this car is very nice. And remember that the XJR-S engine is a 6.0 liter, not the 5.3L in the XJS. It has 313 hp, heavy-duty springs, gas-Bilsteins, a new rear wing, rear and front air valences, side skirts, and custom wheel. A base XJS cost $52,363 in 1993 and the XJR-S costs an additional $25,000 (plus another $7700 for the convertible). It did 0-60 in 6.6 seconds and went to 153 mph, not bad for a 4062 lb car. The GM Turbo Hydramatic can easily handle the 339 ftlbs of torque. It's a luxury cruiser for sure with plenty of wood and nice gray leather front and back. If you want to get a sense for how Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) prepped his engines, go look at this youtube video for fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9I7GWllPFY I also like this Top Gear episode about the XJR-S. Even with his irreverent critiques, a young Jeremy Clarkson host falls in love with the car as I did. I was actually thinking about going with the same color as the car in this video (they only made two XJR-S in silver I am told). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvLeKXLtyeg Here is a photo montage of the XJR-S in various UK and US trim. This car has elements of both. https://www.google.com/search?q=jaguar+xjr-s&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=8O4zUZDqGsSIrgH054C4DQ&ved=0CEsQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=806 Note: This car has a rebuilt title because the owner used a donor car that had been in an accident when it was very new. I don't know what parts were replaced, but you can see that the XJR-S rear windows and body kit were added. I can put you in touch with the owner who did this work if you are interested in buying the car. The body is straight. I stand behind my description of the car and believe that it is worth sorting out given the nice interior, upgraded engine, wheels, and bodywork. Too many cars, not enough time. I have over $10K in this car so far. I am sure that someone will enjoy putting it right, and in the process, have a car that it comfortable, fast, and smooth. Car is sold as-is, where-is. I will help coordinate shipping. I revised the price to be a Buy it Now which represents less than half of what I have in the car so that a buyer can do the remaining repairs and still have a nice ride for less cash.
