Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1979 Honda CBX We are selling our 1979 Honda CBX – we recently purchased this bike at a local estate/bankruptcy auction here in Florida. She is a beautiful example of Honda's first year run of this iconic 6 cylinder muscle bike - we believe she was rated as the fastest production bike of her time designed to best the Kawasaki KZ1000 of that era. After the 1979 model was introduced, Honda decided to significantly detune the CBX in the subsequent years of production (1980, 1981 & 1982). We were hoping to make this our personal/shop bike as we have never owned a CBX; however, tight personal finances are forcing the sale of this incredible machine – we know it will be one of those many bikes that we regret selling. Since we purchased the bike at an auction, we do not have any history on her – we just know that whoever owned this CBX before us kept her in beautiful condition – someone was really looking after her. The bike had sat for sometime, the carbs were pretty well clogged with old ethanol gas (as most of you can imagine). So we pulled them off and gave them each a thorough cleaning – with the new carbs back on the bike and some fresh gas, she fired right up! This CBX has an absolutely incredible sound – when you crack open the throttle, she sounds like a V12 Ferrari – clean, crisp, high pitched - take a listen on the YouTube videos we have posted below and hear for yourself (… and yes, she does have the signature/normal clutch basket rattle that all ’79 CBX’s are notorious for – do a google search on CBX Clutch Basket Noise – you will be able to read all about this specific noise). She really pulls hard/strong through all gears and through the entire RPM range – she is actually way faster than we had expected (first CBX for us)! EVERYTHING on this bike works: all gauges, all lights, all indicator lights. Her brakes are awesome and she handles really well for a bike of this size. She recently won a trophy for the “Best Stock Bike” category (as chosen by the spectators) in a local car/bike show. The motor and bike are super clean – seeing her in person and giving her the once over will confirm why she took that trophy (as these photos and videos really do not do this bike justice)! Here are the things on her that we are pretty sure are after-market: new battery (installed by the auction company to try and get her running – they were not able to) mirrors chain guard Corbin café style seat (lowers the ride height by a couple inches for sure) headlight grips 6 into 1 header (based on the look, we think it is a D&G pipe but, we not positive) high performance all aluminum light weight swing arm (we tried to research this item but, could not find anything specific – see pics for details and let us know if you guys know anything about it) Super-Sport decals on tank (we put them one as they were missing) Newer Dunlop D404 Tires (80% front / 95% rear) Here are a couple things that may not be clear in the photos/videos: exhaust pipe has some corrosion (see pic) but, does not leak a small nickel sized ding on the top front right side of the tank some spider cracks on the top/middle of the tail piece (see pic) normal wear and tear (some minor nicks/scratches) on the bike as she is almost 35 years old with +36K miles takes a bit for the idle to kick down at times (carbs likely need to be re-synched) We had thought about turning her into a custom Café Racer; however, this bike really should be preserved just the way she is – if she does not reach her reasonable reserve, then she may just end-up on our chopping block ;-)! The reserve is set at a reasonable limit (as we have noticed that many of the recent CBX’s on ebay did not reach the reserve) – we have a feeling ours will likely go beyond our reserve price. Down the road a bit and if we can find another solid ’79 CBX, we hope to build a full-on custom café racer with all of the modern goodies including modern suspension. You can listen to her fired-up and going down the road on the YouTube videos on our webpage (www.barebonerides.com/the-bikes) or on our YouTube Channel (just do a search on Bare Bone Rides CBX). There is a walk around video, one with the motor running/revving, one with the CBX going down the road. Feel free to contact us with any questions. 1) http://youtu.be/VXWruVzjCAU 2) http://youtu.be/G2z55xH41Mo 3) http://youtu.be/BptsnGbcUX0 Check out the shop and our perspective on custom rides/builds at www.barebonerides.com ... feel free to follow our builds by "Like"ing our facebook page at www.facebook.com/barebonerides ... and you can see more photos of this bike on both the website and our facebook page (will be loaded by the week-end of March 2nd). Please keep in mind this bike is roughly 35 years old and, in our opinion, is best suited for someone that knows bikes and knows how to wrench on them ... as she will need normal maintenance like any old-school ride. This is definitely not a beginner’s bike by any means! She has a clean FL Title – and we are not selling this through our shop – as the title in not in the shop’s name – as mentioned earlier, it is a personal bike. We ask that you contact us prior to bidding if you have less than 10 positive feedback scores or a questionable feedback score/rating. We sincerely appreciate your time in checking out this bike … and if she is not for you, as always we wish you much luck on your search for that CBX with your name on it … it is out there! Keep an eye out for our next build – maybe that will be the one for you! PAYMENT: A $500.00 DEPOSIT via PayPal is due upon winning the auction (see "Payment" tab for payment terms/requirements). The balance is due in full within 7 days after the auction has ended. SHIPPING: THIS AUCTION IS FOR A LOCAL PICK UP ONLY FOR THIS MOTORCYCLE. Please note that the buyer will be responsible for all shipping requirements/costs from our shop in Merritt Island, Florida. We can help get the bike to a shipping company as long as the shipper is within 50 miles of Merritt Island, FL. We have helped several buyers coordinate the shipment of their bikes from our shop (to various places around the world including Australia) but, it must be noted that the buyers were responsible for all shipping requirements including the selection of the shipper. Good luck and happy bidding!
