Vehicle Detail
Here is a RARE 1950 Ford F3, the one ton of its day. Flathead V8 NO RESERVE! A real auction the way it should be! VIDEO LINK Please note...to fool the ever intelligent and increasingly controlling ebay god, I have encrypted the inconceivably ingenious and methodical "dot" in parentheses so I can post the youtube link for you to see a video. If I would not have done this, ebay would not allow the auction to be listed. ebay is stopping direct links and direct contact so you have to type in your own "dots" where I have put "(dot)" in parentheses. So just copy and paste the link below into your address bar and replace "(dot)" with a period. That will take you to the video. ebay now sucks. www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=GAElxT5AlLM&feature=youtu(dot)be Up for auction is this 1950 Ford F3, the one ton of it's day. Most of these just have the straight six, but this one has the famous Flathead V8. See above video to see engine. This truck spent its life at a city owned golf course. Body The body is in fair condition for its age, dinged and dented but SOLID! Original never repainted red paint(what there is left of it) with a nice aged patina of surface rust. Serious rust is minimal, floors are solid, cab corners are solid, running boards are solid. There is a little rust through on a couple of the vertical bed rails that run up the outside of the bed, and a little on the front corner of the drivers door, and on the rear corners of the front fenders(all pictured). It has some body dents and dings that you would expect out of 70 years as a golf course maintenance truck, most of which is on the bed. There is no tailgate. Both doors open from the outside, the driver door does not open from inside. The truck had a hoist on it when we got it, which made the bed ride high. The hoist was removed and the bed set back down on the truck, but we did not bolt it down (you can see it move in the video) we figured the new owner might want to redo the bed wood anyway. We can strap it to the frame for shipping. The bed has a sheet of steel installed over the wood, it was probably easier for moving sand around the golf course. The glass in the doors was more of a danger than anything so we removed it, the windshield is cracked, the rear window is okay but old, the whole glass kit for these things is only 350 bucks so its just best to replace it all. Interior has a rip in the seat, its missing a couple dash pieces, its 60+ years old, enough said. In the glove box you will find registration cards that date back to 1971. Other than that, its a really solid body, the video tells the rest of the tale. Chassis As I mentioned it is the RARE F3, the one ton of its day. The F3 has heavy duty springs, 8 lug bolt pattern and other beefed up suspension parts. Tires all have good tread, but they are old and have some weather checking and don't all match since one is brand new. The truck steers nice and straight, rides nice, and drives as it should. The brakes need some work, the rear drivers side leaks out the fluid when you are breaking and will empty, so it needs a new solenoid before the rest can be known. Not much else to say here. Mechanical I was told it has a new clutch, and it works very well, and goes through the gears with no problems. In the video I am trying to get it through the gears quickly, and bring it to a stop without brakes, and these old trucks are not made for speed shifting, that's the only reason why the gears are grinding between shifts...it shifts smooth if you take your time. I personally took the starter apart and cleaned it out, as the old oil build up was causing it to stick and free spin during start up. After cleaning up the inside of the starter it works like new. It runs good and very quiet but it smokes, it will foul the plugs on you, but just pull the plugs out, clean them off, and you're good to go again. It might just be the rings are stuck to the pistons and need to be freed up, or it could need a rebuild, it is 63 years old after all. If it doesn't fire right up for you when its cold the plugs might be the reason, a little starting fluid or a squirt of gas down the carb gets it to fire right up, and don't forget the plugs might need cleaned. Someone put a 12 volt alt on it, but from looking at the swap work I don't trust they switch everything over so I didn't try anything electric, I think they just wanted the extra spark and cranking power for the North Dakota winters. The pump for the hoist was run off the pulley system, and that belt also ran the water pump, so we just tied a sweat shirt string around the two remaining pulleys in the meantime, (don't laugh too hard, it works...its not like these things turn any high RPMs) so you will need to get a belt and pulley set up to fix that. Check the above Video to see it run and drive. Conclusion This is a nice F3 for you to Restore, Rat Rod, or just Leave the way it is tinker on and enjoy the old time nostalgic patina.
