Vehicle Detail

Here's a brief history of the vehicle from the previous owner. "I am the third owner. The first owner had it for the bulk of its life, until about one year before I bought it. A young couple in Santa Fe had it after that, but had to sell it quickly... she became pregnant, and he was transferred to the Albuquerque store (Trader Joe's!! Funny, huh?), but she had just started a Chocolaty business in SF. Not the best highway long distance commuter or family car." Here's the work the previous owner did: ~ new clutch assembly ~ repair to exhaust system ~ repair to emergency brake ~ heater system ~ replaced top end gaskets ~ head gasket/exhaust manifold ~ new temperature unit The temperature gauge in dash no longer works. I have a new in dash gauge I got with the vehicle. I am wondering if the mechanic had too difficult of a time replacing it, so instead installed an under dash. I'll give you the gauge, maybe you could install it. > Everything is original. 1F engine, driveline, transmission, transfer case, etc. I immediately changed all of the oils (crank, transfer, PTO, transmission, front diff, and rear diff). After using it for 3mos I changed them all again. I am now changing them for the third time before winter hits. I've had people comment how little rust it has for a 42 year old FJ. I am not a good judge of that, but compared to the FJ's around here it seems to be true unless they fixed them up. It does appear all of the FJ's I see have rust in the same places. It must be water/mud collection spots in the design of the vehicle. The paint is very oxidized and faded. I tried all of the usual buffing agents when I had it apart. It helped a little, but it's just plan and simple a 42 year old vehicle. I didn't care in the end because it was just my drive around the county vehicle. If someone had the interest they could fix the little bit of rust and have it painted and it would look awesome. I did $4,500 worth of work to the vehicle to get it into the condition I felt to make it a reliable drive around vehicle (including going on 4x4 roads around here in the mountains). I can scan and send you the information on everything, but for now here are the big things. ~ New exhaust system from engine to tailpipe including muffler ~ New master brake cylinder ~ Repaired radiator (core checked and is good) ~ New battery ~ New windshield ~ New 3" lift suspension w/shocks (reverses shackle design) ~ New steering stabilizer ~ New headliner (huge upgrade) ~ All new rubber gaskets & seals on the whole body (another huge improvement to keeping the weather & engine noise out ... including all window seals) ~ New seat belts ~ New windshield wiper assemblies ~ New blinker & tail light lenses ~ I did some primer & rubberized painting in wheel wells & underneath while doing the suspension but ran out of paint. I have a bunch of new can I purchased to finish the job but didn't have time this summer. I can give you all that paint if you like. I think the bottom line is it is a good reliable vehicle for short distance activities. Unless you can going to do a semi or full restore it is a great classic vehicle that in my opinion runs great. If some that knew more about engines than I could probably get it to run even better. I just had to clip the money flow at $4,500 for what I was going to be using it for. As I mentioned I paid $7,000 it. It is the only FJ I've seen that you can engage/disengage the 4 wheel drive (including low) from the inside. It is actually a really nice feature when you need 4x4.Has a nice set of BFG all terrain tires, including spare. I had a compression test done and it was 120 across all six cylinders. At sea level that is equivalent to 130 and a brand new FJ40 back in 1969 came off the line with 160. So, this is right in the ballpark for the estimated mileage of 65K original. This is a great FJ, I have to many thing going on to do it any justice and hate to see it sit. Fly in and drive it home. Put diamond plate on the corners and you will have as good a looking truck as the $15000 + truck selling here on ebay! This truck has been well cared for and it shows! Please feel free to ask any questions and I will get back ASAP1 thanks for looking! There is absolutely zero rust in the floor pan and bed pan of this cruiser, only rust is in rear door seal and on rockers...... Pans are a 100% solid!
