Vehicle Detail
I am listing this for a co-worker and her husband. They have owned it for a little over 3 years, the title shows it came from AZ in 2009 and had 7356 actual miles then. It has been stored at their home for most of the last 3 years as they had 2 bikes and this was "hers" but she preferred to ride on the back of "his" The Good - Super Clean, Super Original, Great Chrome, Unmolested, Adlut Owned Classic. I could not believe the condition of the paint, chrome and seat. When I got to see it, I was blown away. It is dusty from being unused, but everything I touch cleans up like new! The Motor started and ran smoothly as soon as I put a new battery in it- before I though possible, as I was draining the old gas from the tank. The previous owner coated inside the tank and it has been in there so long it is tan instead of white. It has good power and rides well. The Bad - My coworker was learning to ride and she did some "newbie stupid tricks" The right side has light grind damage to the tip of the muffler, brake pedal, and the peg as she fell during training. The left side has scuffs on the turn signal and left engine case as she "forgot to put down the stand" and it fell when she got off. The tires (may be original - Dunlops) are dry rotted to the point of being unsafe. I have riden it on my property and up the road just enough to check the shifting and brakes. The rear brake is good, the front is sticking a little. I will check that out and try to find the problem. The horn only blows if you tap on it. Ther are 2 small rust spots on the tank top-each smaller than a bb. Mirrors are aftermarket and the stem chome is rusty, mirrors are good. The #2 carb float stuck at first, but after it had gas in it for a bit it is fine. No more peeing gas on the transmission ;) The Unbelievable - This is a time capsule of a 1982 NightHawk. The "Break in Oil" sticker is still on the speedo. Most of the tire pressure decal is on the handle bar. All the original decals, and emblems are there and pristine. This bike rides like it is new. Light and nimble. On Feb-01-13 at 17:24:17 PST, seller added the following information: 2-1-13 The front brakes- I spent a little time on them this afternoon, took the calipers off the rotors and exercised the pucks in and out. The calipers have no leaks and the pads and rotors look good. About 7 to 8mm left on the pads and the rotors are nice and true with only light grooving. After reinstalling the calipers I rode up the road a short way - the tires really are scary - and had no problems with the brake drag. So that seems to be sorted ;) On Feb-06-13 at 06:56:18 PST, seller added the following information: 2-6-13 update. The brake and clutch levers came in...the brake lever fit great.. not so with the clutch lever. I got a 53178-431-780 (parts unlimited catalog says it is right) and it won't fit :( OEM number I found is 53178-MA6-000. BTW the reserve is no where near the buy it now price and you guys are just a few hundred away from it. I will be at a car club meeting tomorrow night. I will try to get home before the auction ends and be available to answer any more questions. Good Luck, and happy bidding. Tom 2-7-13 no sale.... I talked to the owner and we are going to try again.... 2-11-13 update. Another new clutch lever is on the way, hope it is right. I had lowered the reserve towards the end of the auction, but no other bids came in. It is still lowered (also lowered the buy it now) so good luck bidding. I restarted the auction looking ahead so I will be available as the auction closes to answer any questions. Thanks Tom
