Vehicle Detail

This is a very original '73 Alfa GTV and the fourth Alfa that I have owned. ('77 Alfetta GT, '69 GTV, '74 Spider, '73 GTV in this order) Among them, it definitely ranks at the bottom of the list in regard to cosmetics, but with just a bit of mechanical work, it might very well be the best driver. I purchased this Alfa GTV last September from an enthusiast in San Diego ( The original listing can be found at: alfabb.com/bb/forums/alfa-romeo-cars-sale-wanted/199583-1973-gtv.html ) and drove it back up to San Francisco averaging nearly 30 mpg. The only real complaints that I have about the car is vague steering due to worn ball joints and bushings in the front end and a couple of minor electrical glitches. (Ignition switch stays on sometimes if you turn the key over too abruptly, the hazard and turn indicator lights don't work and some of the dash lights don't work.) Otherwise, I was pretty impressed by how good a 40 year old car could drive and how fun it can be to get into an old Alfa again. I will miss this car, but I need to sell it because my plans have changed and I don't have the time or the place to restore it as I had originally intended. So it has basically been sitting in storage since I got it. As you can see from the pictures, the Alfa GTV does have some rust. According to the previous owner, the Alfa is a west coast car that sat outside uncovered for about twenty-four (24) years. So most of the rust that you can see is surface rust on the panels. There is however, some perforation around the windshield, cowl panel (it needs replacing), rear trunk lid (I'm including a replacement; see picture), lower driver side door and lower front fender, passenger side rocker skin and lower rear quarter. During my purchase inspection, I did see evidence of rust in the passenger side floor pan and I suspect there is some on the driver side as well. Despite the rust, the Alfa GTV is straight and drives, sounds and feels like an Alfa should, light, nimble, quick, solid yet supple. Therefore, I would conclude that the Alfa is structurally intact. According to the previous owner, the motor was rebuilt prior to being 'parked' and much was done to this Alfa after being 'resurrected' to get it roadworthy again. This list would include: New fluidsIgnition system tune-up and upgrades (Marelli Plex electronic ignition)Fuel system refurbished (new fuel tank, lines, filters and Spruell manual thermostatic actuator device)Cooling system refurbished (new radiator and hoses)Hydraulic systems (new brake master cylinder and slave cylinder)Refurbished brake systemReplacement wheels and tires As a result, this Alfa runs very strong, doesn't burn or leak any fluids and is reliable enough to be a 'daily driver'. So, if you've been looking for a classic Alfa to drive and enjoy as it is and/or to restore in the process, this car may represent a great opportunity and value. In addition, I will include a set of four (4) genuine vintage CROMODORA 6J x 14 +22 wheels in the sale if the reserve is met. More pictures available upon request. Good luck bidding!
