Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Last buyer backed out so I am relisting. 1983 Mercedes-Benz 280GE. Ebay made me say 1980 because of VIN. There is so much to say about the truck, I’m not sure where to start. When purchased, Deutsch American, a premier Mercedes Benz restoration shop, in Maryland, had just finished a full cosmetic restoration on the truck. To build the ultimate G wagon, they took this 280 GE and did a bare metal respray of the body in Land Rover Henley Blue. The roof was then painted white to really set it apart. Full documentation/pictures of bare metal repaint come with the vehicle. During the restoration the following work was completed: All new FACTORY sheet metal around the rear corners, across the rear door bottom, and both rocker panels. New front skid plate installed. Stainless Steel wheel well protection (Danish custom) installed. New H4 headlamps with city lights installed. New taillight assemblies installed. New front and rear bumpers, powder coated and installed. Added a military tire carrier (powder coated, stainless hardware). Mercedes genuine steel wheels powder coated black with BF Goodrich All Terrain tires 285/75/16 New heavy-duty factory rubber trim installed. Once the cosmetics were complete, I had Deutsch take the truck to the next level by converting it from a gas manual to diesel automatic. To do this Deutsch installed a 68,000 mile MB 617A turbo diesel (5 cylinder) engine and the corresponding Mercedes automatic transmission and of course all the necessary ancillaries. With the conversion the following mechanical work was completed: Transmission fully rebuilt using all factory Mercedes parts. 500 miles since rebuild. Turbo Rebuilt and resealed. Throttle linkage rebuilt. Radiator recored. New primary fuel tank and hoses installed. New fuel pump installed. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes replaced New rear drive-shaft ($1,400) Stainless brake hoses installed. New custom exhaust installed. All seals replaced so truck is leak free. Bilstein shocks installed. ORC suspension Some basic info on the truck. The truck has electric windows in the front, sliding windows in the rear, power steering, front and rear lockers, high/low range and a trailer hitch with lighting wiring. The interior is original to the truck and is nice for it's age. The paint is nice except for a few small blemishes that can be seen in the pics. Recarro front seats in leather with twill seats in the rear. Odd but original. As of right now the only thing major to do to the truck is replace the hood. Sadly one day after admiring the engine work, I left the hood unlatched before taking it for a spin. You can imagine what happened. I called the Mercedes restoration center in Irvine and they told me the correct hood would be $900. Paint obviously is extra but the repair should be easy enough. The paint is very fresh and easily matched. I have the proper paint codes. With the sale the truck comes a 114 page restoration book, tool roll, and the original 280 GE manual. If you are looking for a g wagon that stands out this is the one. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions or come see this impressive G in person. Thanks
