1987 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL (Diesel S-class long wheelbase) Reduced reserve and Buy It Now238,000 miles. Smoke Silver, burgundy leather. Runs and drives beautifully. 67,000 miles on transmission and A/C compressor. Less than 10,000 miles on rebuilt front end suspension. Exterior is mostly good (see details below). Interior very good (details below). Excellent tires. Owned since 2006 and maintained regularly since then by mechanic specializing in M-B. Good things: Drives nearly like new and will cruise at Texas freeway speeds all day long. Starts willingly and does not burn or leak oil. Injectors and glow plugs have less than 50,000 miles on them. 67,000 miles on rebuilt transmission which operates like new. Alternator and AC compressor and lines replaced at the same time as the transmission. Tires (Bridgestone) are excellent with good tread. Front suspension rebuilt less than 10,000 miles ago and now tracks with no steering wheel slop. Body in excellent condition with one door ding (rt. rear) and some minor front end damage as detailed below. Paint intact except for one spot on hood. Wheels are good with minimal curb damage. I have been under the car on a lift and there is not visible evidence of rust. Interior is excellent considering the age. Driver's seat recently rebuilt to fix sag. Leather is intact with only minor scuffing on the driver's seat. Steering wheel is uncracked. Wood is mostly good -- one surface crack on console wood. Dash is good with one 2-inch crack at left speaker. Headliner, doors, and carpet are excellent. Everything works except front passenger door window will not go down (switch works - something doesn't inside the door). Power seats work perfectly but the memory does not. Cruise control works but is occasionally unreliable. Radio recently rebuilt with new antenna. Car has not been smoked in since my purchase, and judging from the condition of the ashtrays and lighters, as well as the lack of odor, has likely not ever been smoked in. The interior color is very vivid in some of the pictures. This is due to the lighting at the time of the photography and I chose not to alter this in photoshop. The true color is exactly consistent with Mercedes-Benz burgundy (as can be seen in a few of the darker pictures). Any re-dying has been done consistently with the stock color.Not-so-good things: Needs front brakes (mechanic says not safe to drive as is other than short distances). A/C condenser needs to be replaced. Before this failure, the AC blew very cold. Heat and auto climate control work. Battery does not hold charge (this may be because it does not get driven regularly, but it may need a new battery). Windshield is cracked (does not impair driving, but it is cracked). Some minor front end body damage (got backed into - grille and right headlight surround need replacing -- all else is straightening sheet metal -- see photos) - does not affect driving or safety, just appearances. Sheet metal damage is limited to the portion of the hood that comes down next to the grille, which has been pushed back slightly. Car has been driven more than two years in this condition -- it does not affect anything except appearance. Paint is mostly intact but tired.I have driven this car across the country (Washington DC, Chicago, Indianapolis, etc) a number of times, and with the brakes fixed would not hesitate to do so again, but with 4 cars, I do not drive it enough and so am selling.
