Vehicle Detail
We are selling our 1981 Mercedes 240D sedan, light tan exterior with a black interior. The car has been converted to run Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) /Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) using a Greasecar kit and has the "co-pilot" computer setup. The Greasecar kit alone costs $1295 from the Greasecar website; http://www.greasecar.com/products/greasecar-auto-kits/mercedes-sedan-1979-1994 . Kit always worked well - the computer is fantastic, once the SVO/WVO reaches temperature it can be set to automatically switch over to it from diesel. The SVO/WVO tank is located in the spare wheel well as designed. Averaged right around 30 miles a gallon on either diesel or SVO/WVO - really no noticeable difference between fuel types. With fuel well over $3 a gallon the conversion was financially wonderful as well as environmentally! This car was a daily driver until the engine was damaged due to a timing chain failure - not due to SVO/WVO conversion. Our mechanic (a diesel specialist) determined the engine was not salvageable and that the best option would be to perform an engine transfer. He has pulled the engine from this car in preparation for a transfer. Odometer had 325200 miles on it at the time of failure. This brings us to car two (buy one get one free!). Included in this auction is another 1981 Mercedes 240D (born only a few months apart), blue exterior, blue interior, with working engine - was started and run this weekend. This car was to be the donor car for engine and any other parts needed in the future, odometer currently reads 181500 miles. Our mechanic is moving to a larger company and we do not currently have funds to perform the transfer before his move. Figure this will be a good project for someone who has time and space available and who can enjoy these cars as well in future. A large amount of effort has been spent on the tan 240D preserving the body, although it is by no means perfect. It has undercar coating and sealing along the bottom of the doors. Comes with some vintage silver roof racks for surfboards or potentially skis. The body on the blue car does have some rust spots, mainly around the wheel wells, and there is a small dent in one of the rear panels. Both cars are clean for their age. The black interior in the tan 240D looks like new and the blue interior of the blue 240D looks very nice as well - see photos. Manuals are included as well. Have plenty of pictures besides those above, so feel free to contact me for more photos or with questions. Again, this auction is for both cars pictured and is starting at a low initial price. The cars are sold as-is, so please ask all questions prior to bidding. Also available for local viewing here in NH. Thank you for your time and interest.
